I have been told that coyotes can kill baby deer but can they really take down a full grow deer even if they are hunting in a pack or is this just a myth. What do you think?

There is no doubt in my mind that a coyote can and will,if given the oportunity,take down a full grownn deer.I was out doing a job for a local rancher and as I worked my way along the side of a sharp ridge all of a sudden I hear a deer start bleating on the oyher side. I hustle over the ridge and get to where I can see what is going on.Down below me about 50 yards a coyote has a doe by the throat and has her down.I went ahead and shot him off of her and she layed there for a few secounds then got up and kind of half trotted off.She was so exausted that I think that was as fast as she could go.Now our deer here are blacktail and not nearly as large as some whitetail and certinely not as big as a mule deer(an average doe will go about 65-80 pounds)I'am sure had I not interviened that lone coyote would have killed that adult deer.

A YOTE CAN AND WILL TAKE DOWN FULL GROWN DEER, SAW A PROGRAM ON DISCOVERY TALKING ABOUT THE YOTE AND THEY SHOWED A PACK OF YOTES TAKING DOWN FULL GROWN DEER. SO YES IT IS POSSIBLE.

I live on a ranch and I have seen four coyotes wait for a deer to die before they came near it but I am guessing if they wanted to they could.

No doubt in my mind that they can take a full grown deer. Many people try to invision coyotes taking deer such as a mountain lion would, but running it down and killing it quickly, but they will first work the deer to exhaustion to weeken it, then they will take it down. I've seen coyotes take full grown cows too, and that's how they did it, wore her down to exhaustion, then they start eating while it's still a live.

It's not worth it to a coyote to take on a full grown deer. However, if they can't find any other food, they will. It's more likely that they will take out the weakest or youngest of a herd when they try, but I have heard other hunters claim that they watched a pack of about a dozen tear down a 12 pt buck that looked healthy as a horse. They shot 4 of them before they went and claimed the rack. As stated before, they won't do it if they don't have to, but if properly motivated, you'd be surprised what they can kill.

I was sitting in a tree stand and had a doe flash by me with a tongue hanging out, thinking that there was a buck behind her i got ready for a shot and here comes a coyote i arowwed him.in the next 15 minutes a total of five came past me on her trail,i got four.the fifth smelled to much blood and got out of dodge,lucky for me i only had five arrows.there is no doubt they were running her down and as always i do my best to kill everyone i see.

This is what I was told from a person from fish and game. Coyotes will get in a pack and chase after a deer. When they get close to it they will bite it on the rear, eating it alive. The deer usually dies of blood loss more than anything. My state has an overpopulation of yotes, and our mulie population has been stagnate for years.
