Default Killing Coyotes

Im really new to this. My dog was killed by a coyote and I want to destroy them. Im planning on going to Turner's Outdoorsman or Bass Pro Shops and getting a few books. Ive been thinking about using a predator calling device with scents and possibly a fake animal half concealed. I would be using a .22. Im not sure exactly how to do this, does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I would really appreciate it. By the way, Im not sure if its legal to kill them where I live (CA) but I dont really care.

Help me out?

No doubt that it is legal to kill coyotes in CA., BUT not just any where and every where. If you live in a residential area/suburb, then it's probably not legal to discharge a firearm. Here's an idea. IF in fact you live in an area where it's illigal to hunt/discharge a firearm, instead of breaking the law, why not try to contact your local game department and put pressure on them to remove the problem coyotes. There are professional ADC/animal damage control people that will be much more effective at removing problom animals in a certain area, than you will be will a brick of .22lr ammo.

i would not use a 22 mag you could but they might get away but they will die later from blood lose so in your case i dont think you care so either 22 mag or get a 223 or 243 or good yote guns

Thanks. I'll definitely check where it is legal and consider cartridge size. I went to Turner's today and got some advice..

how far are u looking at shooting. if it is under 70 yards u wold be better off with a shotgun loaded with 00 buck and a full choke. otherwiese ur deer rifle will work fine. u dont want to leave a wounded one out there. thats just my 2 cents.

I agree with hunt91. If you're planning on shooting close range, a 22 or shotgun would work. I don't have a varmint rifle, so I always use my 30-06. If you just want to kill them, any rifle will work. Good luck

If a firearm is not allowed for huning in your area, check the laws/regulations and with an official to see if a bow can be used. Sometimes a bow can be used where a firearm cannot.
