I've seen an awful lot of coyotes and prairie dogs shot with a .223, and none of them lived long enough to give me thier opinion! If your calling coyotes and don't think the .223 is enough gun, I got one thing to say. LEARN HOW TO CALL AND THEY WILL BE PLENTY CLOSE FOR A .223 TO KILL THEM!

Well guys, I think we've been the victims of a "post-and-run". I kindof figured this guy was a troll right from the start, as yesterday he posted 4 posts in 17 minutes, three of which were negative and/or derogatory. Maybe mommy and daddy haven't been monitoring juniors computer time close enough.

Brusser I am sorry to say but, your wrong.... I don’t think you have ever shot a .223 or I think you would change over. My .223 will out shoot you and your gun ... I bet I could out shoot you with a .22 lr ... it sounds to me like you better get some experience before you disrespect a great caliber like a .223.

This is a silly discussion. Both the .223 and the .22-250 are excellent rounds if used within their capabilities. Personally, I prefer the .223 but only because I seldom, actually never, get a shot beyond 150 yds.. If I hunted where I could get longer shots I would buy a .22-250. When my shots are limited to under 150 yds. why pay $12.00 per box when I only need to spend $6.00? I'm sure the critters don't know, or care, what I'm shooting.

if you want a real gun go spend $2000.00 and some change for a 50 cal. my 50 makes your 22-250 look like a pea shooter. it is only a single shot but you know when you pull the trigger and you know when it hits. oh ya i also love the .223's

You can get ya a semi-auto .50 AE for a fair amount of pocket change...

If you feel the need to blow a large hole in something, the 50 Action Express Sledgehammer is just the ticket. Hurling a 325gr lead brick down range, there isn’t much that is going to take a hit from this beast and keep on ticking. Recoil from the 50AE is quite robust, as is the muzzle blast followed by equally impressive down range destruction. Though the wimpy ass CAR collapsible stocks may work fine with your .223 pop gun, the 50AE will auto-collapse your stock in short order. I think that green, when referring to spending $2000 on a single shot .50cal, was talking about a .50BMG, not .50AE. The .50BMG is a LOT more gun than a .50AE. To the tune of firing a 750 grain bullet at roughly 2800fps. Probably the most powerful rifle shoulder fired rifle you can get. It has over 11,000 (yes, that's eleven thousand) ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle in most loadings. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, although the mandatory high-efficientcy muzzle brakes that all of the .50BMG rifles are equipped with reduce recoil to around that of a 12 gauge magnum slug gun. Still pretty stout.
Here's the rifle I dream about when I get fits of magnumitis...the Barrett M82A1 .50BMG:
