Hi, I hunt Graysquirrells here in Vermont during Sept. and December. I use a 10-22 Ruger semi w/40 Grain Hollow Point Long Rifle bullets.I have a 4 pwr. Bushnell scope mounted on the rifle. It is a very effective squirrell gun for me. I hope this helps you!

i have always used the .22 for squirrels. most recently, a marlin model 39a.the .22 long rifle hp in the head being the ticket.however, i just got a rem 597 .17 hmr and plan to try it next fall.any hits with this little gun other than the head means a bad shot.it is a very fast and flat shooter.maybe even an overkill, but i really like it because we have a lot of armadillos and the .17 really is the medicine for them while squirrel hunting.

Any shotgun or air rifle when ever possible!!! i enjoy chasing them along the ground because the ones in my area of Britain are really stupid and dont seem to like trees that much! Better for me though!

O.k..O.k....I know you all probably won't beleive me but just try ok? When I was 16 or so I saw one out my bedroom window, weel I had my slingshot on my desk so I grabbed it. I didn't have any rocks in my room..duh...so I got in my tackle box and grabbed a no.4 fishing weight...a football shaped one...seriuosly I shot that thing fair and sqaure, right of the fence. Beleive it or not.

westurk, I've done the same thing only with .45 lead muzzleloader balls. I've also killed rabbits with the same thing.

I use my Ruger 22/45 with iron sights. Never seemed to need much more around here. If you sit still enough for 10 minutes you can knock over 1 or 2 under the same tree. Rarely a shot more than 20 yards.

I do want to try some Colibri ammo to try to get more than one or two without scaring the others away. Think it has the penetration power needed?
