I went out looking for coyotes this morning. Left about 6am and got to my spot about 20 minutes before it was light enough to see my crosshairs. I sat still for a while and let things settle down and began calling as soon as I could see well enough. After about 5 minutes of calling, maybe less, I nice coyote blasted out of the brush onto the old snowmobile trail I was watching and froze facing me but looking to the opposite side where it came from. I was waiting for a better shot when it all of a sudden dissapeared where it came from in a blur. I put down my gun and kinda cursed myself silently when out of the woods on the other side of the trail from where the coyote came out came two very large timber wolves! I just saw them for a second and they took off after the coyote. I didn't call there again as I didn't want the timbers to come back. My heart was sure pounding when I saw those wolves. Whew!

deerslayer still, is there a season on wolves or what?. I'd think that if it was open season, you would've been taking a wolf right then and there. But sounds exciting for sure.

Shooting a wolf in Minnesota carries a fine of somwhere in the neighborhood of $20,000 and you lose your hunting priveleges for 2 to 5 years. It was exciting to see though. You don't see much of Timberwolves other than tracks or ESPN <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I will never know if I actually called all three animals in or if they were already after the coyote when I started calling. The wolves didn't pay much attention to me, if any at all.

If the fines were higher and jail time mandatory for every infraction. It sure wouldn't be as profitable.
deersayer seeing those wolves would a very cool thing.

I wish that I would have been out with a good camera but, I would have barely had a chance to snap off a picture or two. They were BIG healthy wolves. Very beautiful.
