I've used the "hay" set in the past with good results. But to tell the truth, I use straw. I usually place the Hay set on top of a hill. You can go with 1 layer of bales or you can go higher if you want. I lay the bales in a "v" shape. it is tight up near the inside edge of the bales making the "V" itself, I dig a small hole (3" dia). Place bait or lure in hole . I use a good quality fish oil in the hole. Place trap as desired per hole. I also place 2 more traps on the 2 long edges of the V. You must use short chain here on your set up so the fox can't get at each other if you nail a double. Again, dig a hole at the edge of the bales and place lure/bait of your choosing. I've got quite a few triples on this set. once had a yote and 2 coon. This set works really good in the winter when snow is on the ground. The yellow straw is a good attractor by itself against a white background The "v" is placed and with two bales, the lure is placed deep in the "v". it works well, the U shape works great to but as I cant drive ot many of my sets two bales is easier to carry than three. shape is not what matters it more the trap placement. If this is what you mean by Hay set?????
