fox hunting
#2
I hunt around farm land. But where ever you are, you wanna to be able to see in all directions and still be out of sight. And to get foxes to come to you get a call.
My spot is along a fence row. I sit down, lean against a fence post and have my bi-pod with me. So I have a very steady shot. There is a field behind me, in front of me, to the right and to the left. The fence I sit along is higher than the fields around me so I can see in every direction a good ways. There are weeds grown up a little so I'm not just in the open. [ul][*]I hunt fox at night. A full moon helps. If your going to shoot foxes in the dark, you need to see them come in. That's why I sit in a field. Unless you have Night Vision, hunting foxes in the woods at night is hard to do because you can't see very far and there are lots of hiding places. They can come in and you'll never know it. Being in the middle of a field allows you to see the fox before it get's close enough to know your there. [/ul] [ul][*]After it's been dark for a while, sneak in and just sit for a while. Don't use a flash light to walk in and don't make a lot of noises. You want to be undetected. When you get to your spot, look around your surroundings and get an idea of what everything looks like in the dark. Things look different in the dark. After a while start calling. A electronic call with a remote is nice, but any normal distress call will work.[/ul] [ul][*]Having a partner with you works great. That way both of you can look in different locations so one doesn't sneak up on you. I find that bringing a girlfriend is pretty interesting.
[/ul]
Check the regulations for your state! Where I live, you can use a light as long as it isn't cast from a vehicle. This is probably not legal in every state. It might not even be legal to hunt at night in other states. I don't know. If you live in Virginia though, this is probably the best way to kill foxes.
