Bowhunting Coyotes
Now that I have started predator calling, I want to kill one with my bow calling it in...mainly just to say I have done so. Don't want to switch over to bowhunting full time on calling stands, but would enjoy mixing it up with the bow. Most yotes I have called this year have been bow range anyway.
I realize it will make it much harder...my question is, how should I set up differently?
Have any of you guys tried it and can offer up advice?
I hunt in the east (KY), so the areas I call have plenty of cover, often too thick...no wide open praries here.

TEmbry,
What I would do is this... Take yourself out of the scenerio... Use a decoy, somthing with movement... and set up close to it, and probabley up wind(if possible) by focusing the Coyotes attention to the decoy... He is less likely to be looking for you... I try to do this everytime I set up, and it seems to work good.. I shoot with a rifle and shotgun, but I have had guys come out with their stick slingers.... JUst my $.02 (2 cents) if its worth anything... I dont think I would pay two cents for it though...

RE: Bowhunting Coyotes
If you are a bowhunter get in your deerstands and call from there,it's not illegal in KY and you are calling from a better vantage point if you have a remote caller then even better a coyote doesn't realize what you are from up in a tree.I got a second shot with a bow from my tree stand last year on one, that probably aint going to happen from the ground.Good Luck!!

RE: Bowhunting Coyotes
Callin' and killin' a coyote with a bow is a challenge, for sure. Getting the sound away from you/bow shooter will certainly help. A decoy with movement will help. Not so sure the stationary coyote decoy will help, from what I've seen and heard is that a coyote will usually stop its approach once it spots the decoy, or it will start to swing downwind once it spots the decoy.
Just need to plan on calling in several coyotes before it all comes together. The movement of getting drawn is something that hardly goes un-noticed by most coyotes.
I also like the expandable broadheads that offer 1.5" of cut to get as much blood pumped out as possible. Them suckers can go a long ways when hit and that fur soaks up blood like a spunge.
Good luck and post the story and pics. if ya succeed!
