Dog proofing traps

RE: Dog proofing traps
Always hard to dogproof a leghold or conibear trap without also making it hard to catch the animals you are targeting. They now have coon traps that are dogproof and will only catch coons. You might want to check into them.

GOSPELGUY, I HAVE A COUPLE AREA I WORK WITH LOTS OF DOGS IN IT. I USE A 6" PVC CAP TO KEEP THEM OUT. DRILL A HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE CAP ABOUT 1 1/4 AT YOUR SITE DIG A HOLE TO BURY THE CAP AND TRAP. I SET THE TRAP AND PLACE A COTTON BALL OR SPONGE ON THE PAN WITH FISH OIL ON IT. I THEN PLACE THE CAP OVER THE TRAP LEAVING ROOM FOR THE TRAP TO FIRE. I PLUGE THE HOLD AND SHIFT DIRT OVER THE CAP AND REMOVE THE PLUGE. DOGS WILL TRY TO DIG THE CAP UP AND SET THE TRAP OFF BY PAWING THE PVC CAP. WHEN USING THIS SET UP I DO NOT WORRY ABOUT COONS EATING THE LEG OFF THE PVC CAP KEEPS THEM FROM BEING ABLE TO CREW THERE FOOT OFF.
GOOD HUNTING/TRAPPING.
