Catching a skunk in a fox or yote set can be benefical. Most of the time, Skunk do not secrete unless excited. I shoot them in the heart. If it does secrete on your set it's good not bad. Use gloves to remove it and reset your trap. next day or so you should have a fox or coyote. As far as coping with the smell, hold your breath. I,to,am a nuisance wildlife trapper and a fur trapper. when I catch a skunk in a live trap, I take an old blanket and slowly place it over the trap. Once in the dark they very seldom secrete. Forget about the tomato juice. Protrapper is right, with what he said. By the way, Protrapper, welcome aboard.

It has been years since I trapped too but I used to just put them to sleep and they wouldn't scent. I used a 4' hoe to rough up the area and just cut the top end so it had a flat spot. Then I fastened 2 angle brackets to the top (basically these could be loosened and a syringe hooked under it...a jab pole). I used acetone and put in the syringe. Just move slow talking to the skunk and you let it sniff the needle, this slow movement keeps the skunk from spraying (usually!). Place the needle right behind the front leg and push to stick the needle into the skunk. Then just push the contents into the skunk. Pull it out and back off. The skunk will get sleepy and start yawning and go to sleep in under a minute. Tehn tap the skund on the nose to make sure it is asleep and put another ccor two in the needle and insert right into the heart to make sure it is dead. I did several skunks in one day once and had them in the trunk so this works. Easier to see then to explain. Any ? just e-mail.

To remove skunk odor from you, your dog or your clothes, mix a quart of hydrogen peroxide, two tablespoons baking soda, two tablespoons lemon dish soap and a pint of warm water. Wash and rinse well.
I've used this for years on bird dogs and it does work very well. When trapping in early season I always carry a plastic gallon milk jug full of this stuff just in case. As for your trap, just reboil it.
