I was thinking...what happens if you set your trap for a fox and you catch a skunk. How do you get the skunk off. Do you kill it first? If so how do you get past the smell?

Shoot at the base of the skull, take out the spinal column, then move it to a stream and work the skunk off underwater from the trap.
Next, milk the musk into a bottle using latex gloves. After that, skin the skunk, also underwater. If you do miss with the musk, then use tomato sauce or paste to work the fluid off you and what ever else you donl't want to have stink.
By the way, that scent neutrailizer that you get for bowhunting? Try it out while your at it, you will find out real quick whether it works or not.

Hi everyone,
I`am new to this fourm, but have been reading
it for sometime now....SCRAPHUNTER,in responce to your question. I am a nuisance
wildlife control operator and I have to deal
with skunks almost on a daily basis. we use a
lot of cage traps and when one of these gets
sprayed we use a ozone machine to take the
odor off. It sounds like your using a foot
hold trap, if so, try using a commercial
odor remover such as Natures Remedy. you can
find it at most feed or hardware stores.
After you treat your trap you should then boil it in clean water. Dipping your trap in
tomato juice will give you nothing but a pink
trap that smells like a skunk! If the skunk
sprays at the catch site thats not a really
bad thing, just remake your set in the same
catch circle, bedding and covering the trap
with clean dirt. Canids actually find skunk
essance something to check out and will help
keep them at your set a little longer then it`s up to your lure to do the rest.

It's been several years since I quit trappin. It may not be legal anymore, but everytime I caught a skunk, I would shoot it and then set up to 4-#3 size traps around it and then after a couple of days I would usually have a fox or a coyote in my trap.
But here in Iowa , That would be considered baiting, which is not allowed anymore.
GOOD LUCK!
IOWA!!, Gods choice of Heaven on Earth!!

I have caught a skunk in a live trap before. I saw that thing in there and thought oh crap! I didn't know how the heck i was going to get it out of there. Eventually I worked up the nerve to let it go. I eased up to it and raised the door as slow as I could. It ran off without even making a hiss. I couldn't believe how lucky I was that it didn't spray me.

never trapped where I could nab a fox but the ole man did. When ever hit caught one, he'd throw in in the creek till the next morning, that skunk would be smellin good after a wee bit of a bath <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>! Serious, it does work, If he nabbed one in the morning we'd go back before dark and get them. I do remember on occasion them stinking but no where near like they do when ya first walk up on them LOL!
