Default How to go for coyote hunting

I am thinking of taking up coyote hunting in the farmlands around me but not sure where and how tostart.

I have done some research on coyote habitat...but would like to know how to contact landowners who would be willing to let me hunt on their property, how to get in contact with them, what their incentives would be, say, for letting me to come in to their proerty, etc.

Please do shed light on my inquest.......

You just naad to get out and knock on some doors. you'll find some people won't even talk to you ,and some people, when you tell them you want to hunt coyotes, they'll bring you in there house for coffee, and a dognut. It just depends on the people you talk to. You can offer to do work for them, but i've found that if a guy will let you hunt, he'll just let you hunt for the sake of hunting.

It is easier to say no on the phone than it is face to face , knock on some doors. Make sure to look decent. Don't show up in full camo asking to hunt on their land today.I like to dress like a farmer/local1st It is better to ask about using the land well in advance, be courtious and listen. Make sure to clean up your mess and if you see an oppurtunity to lend a helping hand make sureto do so. Good Luck!

Local gathering hole for farmers/ranchers is also a good way to get in touch with people. If you can get permission from one of them, he/she will tell the others if you have been doing well and whether or not you are messing up the property or doing something you shouldn't be doing. That will lead to others inviting you instead of you having to ask.

I have one rancher/farmer that will call me at 11:00 at night and let me know that he has seen a coyote running through his cow pen. I live 45 minutes away from him and am only in the area one day on the weekend, if that. But he will let me know that they are there and he wants them taken care of. He gathers at the local coffee shop and even though I know everyone there, they will tell him to him to call me when they have problems.

Get your foot in the door and let the rest happen.

Getting permission to coyote hunt is much easier than getting permission to deer hunt or anything else.By controlling the predator population you are helping them with their deer and turkey and quaill population,or anything that the coyote can catch, and a bunch of rabbits and mice.I have had farmers that told me no,they had their farms leased to deer hunters, tell me to come back after gun season for deer and kill every coyote on them if I can, coyotes are undesirable animals to say the least,to the average farmer especailly if they are livestock farmers, calfs and goat kids and sheep dont have a chance if they are seperated from the herd by a couple or three coyotes or are found right after birth,so get out and knock on some doors, always introduce yourself and dont get discouraged its easier than obtaining any other hunting rights to some prime lands.I have saw paper advertisements posted at the farmers supply and co-op's advertising hunting services for predator control,I dont know if this works, but if the farmers havelost a few calves over the years to predator, he might be giving you a call, but in person is best, would you give someone that you have never met in person permission to come on your land with a high powered rifle??

Another tip is to print some small cards with you name and phone number on it, also print coyote hunter. Tell them if they know anyone with a problem feel free to give the card to them. I have got a couple spots that way.

Church.... I get more requests from the farmers at church... I have cards that I give the land owners so that when they notice them they call... I tell them to call if they see them, hear them, or if they start to see them in one area consistantly.... I get calls all year long... and the nice thing, farmers know lots of farmers... and you make one happy you'll have more ground than you can afford "the gas" to hunt in no time....
