223vs22-250??

I'm sure you guys get all kinds of questions about different calibers but I was wondering howbig of a differerence their is in the 223 vs. the 22-250 for coyote hunting? Seems like I could get a better deal on getting a 223,but I don't want to get it if their is a significant advantage with the 22-250.I probably wont be getting a shot over 300 yards in the area ill be hunting.
Also,is their much of a difference in pelt damage?
Thanks,
James

hey bamahuntin this is a touchy subject, but I will give you my 2cents worth. In our side of the country you probably wont need the extra range and velocity so the 223 is a very good choice, ammo cost about half as much or less than the 22-250.Every coyote I have taken with my 223 hasn't had a lot of fur damage I like 55grn softpoint, some of the V-max bullets do more damage, the 22-250 is also a great caliber but not needed around here due to the shorter ranges. Both are very accurate in all types of modern rifles.hope this helps.

Out to 300 yds the 223 will be fine. Its after this distance that 22-250 would outshine the 223. Ammo is a bit cheaper for the 223, but it depends on how much you shoot. If you only shoot 2 or 3 boxes of ammo in a year, it wont be to hard on the wallet. If you plan on shooting 10 boxes of ammo, the 223 will save you a chunk of change.

Is their any other rifle I should consider? I'm not dead set on these, they just seemed to fit what i'm looking for.I could probably geta 223 alot cheaper thana 22-250 as well right? I went and looked at some 22-250's today and all the ones I looked at were pretty pricey. All the ones I seen also were REALLY heavy as well. Can't imagine what a lighter weight one would cost.Did'nt really pay attention to the 223 because I was'nt really seriously considering it at the time.I had my heart set on the 22-250 but it's starting to sway a bit. What else should I be considering?
Thanks,

The .223 will do that for ya. The .22-250 will do it farther, and then there is the .220swift.I like the swift out of all the .22's,since I reload ammo is no problem. And there is still plenty of factory ammo out there. In a 22-250 savage 12 varmint is as good as it gets.I had one for a while then I got a ruger M77 MKII target in a .220 swift and just fell for the swift.

Pass on the 204, and stay with the 223 Remington.Tom.

Here in NC, I hunt predators in cut overs and on powerlines to take advantage of my .22-250's long range ability. I went through a similar decision making process last year and decided to go with the .22-250 so I'd never regret not buying the best in terms of long range.
