im with emular on this oe trade it in and buy a NEF hadi-rifle its a break action .223 and its only $215. but if your intent on useing a .22lr buy some cci veolocitors (they have 30% more enery than a normal .22lr bullet) and aim for the head

If your Ruger is like most, it shoots straight, and fast.
I' ve taken several coyotes with different .22lrs, and have had good success, that is, not one has ran away, I shoot them under the ear (where the skull is thinnest) or through the heart with a quartering away shot when I can enter the body through the " floating" ribs. I' d never shoot one over 50yrds away, and more often than not I double tap them just in case...which isn' t for everyone, I can bump fire my marlins, 10rnds in under 3 sec, or 17rnds in under 5, I can hit the same can three times before it falls off the fence. WHen Iknow I have a good shot, I don' t do that, but when they are good sized and I' m trying to go through the ribcage, it' s easier to let one bullet lead the other in.

i have taken yotes with a 22LR but i didnt have any other gun with me and it was only a 10 to 15 yrd shot. took him down good. but i agree. i am going to try and buy a 223 for them. i most of the time use the smallest load for 30-06.
