If you used some decent bullets wouldn't they tend not to expand as much as they would on a whitetail? I'm only thinking this because the coyote isn't as massive as a deer.

well im going to be killing them to sell to a fur buyer, is it too big of a hole for that? The reason i asked about the 7mm is that i want to get a High Power rifle to hunt hith and my uncle said he would give me a good deal on the 7mm he no longer uses.
Thanks for the help!

That is probably one of the last guns I would use to go dog hunting. I am taking my 7mm to Africa to hunt big game. And as far as the ballistics that is not a flat shooting gun. It has a lot of energy but to heavy. Here is a link with the ballistics. http://www.gunsandammomag.com/ballistics/7mm_08_rem.html

I would recommend the .204 Ruger. The flatest shooting caliber made and fastest. Look i

7mm Rem Mag isn't flat shooting....hmmm.

If you are going to use it, get some match bullets to use. Like FMJs, they don't expand a whole lot.

I have a funny feelin that no matter what bullet you use, its gonna blow 'em up. I've shot probably a dozen coyotes with my 7mm Rem Mag while deer hunting, and its not a pretty sight. I've used 139gr SSTs, 140gr Nosler AccuBonds, and 160gr Nosler Accubonds all on coyotes. I never got a chance to shoot a dog with the 120gr Barnes TSXs or the 160gr Barnes TSXs, but I'd imagine they'll have the same results as the other bullets.

I would agree with most of the other guys that 7mag is a lot of gun for a 30 to 40lb animal and will kill them farther than you can shoot them.I am not fond off using FMJ bullets due to there lack of killing power, but I think you should have no problems with your mini-cannon's FMJ killing them out to about 1/2 a mile or so just make sure somethings bihind it ,[like a rhino or something ],those FMJ have alot of penetration.

Check with your state game reg's.many states don't allow fmj's while hunting, even if it just a coyote.

if you are a reloader you might be able to get away with loading a tough controlled expansion bullet or a fmj at as low a velocity as you can and cut down on some of the damage. but there is no way around it, 7mm are wwwwwaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy to much gun. but here is another idea, buy the 7mm and shoot a coyote with it and then tell the little woman that it is way to much gun and go buy a good varmit rig and then you will have the best of both worlds.
