Coyotes have shut down here this week... must've gone to daytime movement during the break in deer seasons.

It didn't start snowing where I was hunting until late morning, but then boy did it come down. Now I am back home in Pueblo and can't do much with the 3-4 inches of snow we got yesterday and last night.

Yeah, the snow, and the wind really got serious about 30 minutes after I shot this coyote, and by the time I was about 2 miles from the truck, I was second guessing my decision about taking such a long walk about, plus I only called one other coyote after this one and it didn't offer me a shot. Guessing the wind and heavy snow didn't help me any, since I really thought I was in the "meat and potatoes" part of the ranch by then.

We got some good snow here too, I was really wanting to get out sunday. But saturday night around 9 pm My wife an I were on our way home from dinner and we were involved in a wreck a drunk driver outta nowhere nailed my truck. Long story short the SOB ran but my wife was able to get the plate number an color of the jeep and the cops had him about an hour later. When it was said done with the jerk was drunk and had a suspended license and no insurance and 3 warrants for domestic violence and drug charges. he'll be going away for along time he's now got felony hit and run, a dui and driving on suspended lisence and no insurance on top of it.

But now Im left with a wrecked truck and my wife an I are both pretty banged up. gotta call my insurance company in a few hours. But as soon as my shoulders and back quit hurtin I will put a new EGR valve in my other pickup and get it runnin. hopefully Ill get in the field before this snow melts.

texjam, I'm thinking next winters contest will include raccoons. did you guys use coon fighting tape to pull them out of the den holes?

So far I've made a bunch of unsuccessful stands around my house the last couple evenings. Between 3 gazzillion pheasants, 2 gazillion cottontails, and 1 gazillion jackrabbits, I can't get any dogs to respond. Last week while pheasant hunting we kicked a dog outta some cattails and my buddy ran him down with the pickup an shot him, it was as mangy as they come.

I am planning a few trips across the state and probably head down to Nebraska soon.

Yeah its not working. We've taken over 3000 pheasants off my land so far this year, and we're seeing more than we've seen all season now.

I did go check my bait station, I gut all my deer an throw the carcuses in one spot, and its been getting hard the last few days. So maybe in the AM I'll go sit over it and watch.

Got this one this afternoon. Action was slow in the area we hunted this weekend, but we managed to call a few in dispite the breezy conditions. This is the only one I got to shoot at, but I made it count!:)

Finally, I got another dog to add to this. Called this one in this afternoon, as well as another I dumped mine, and my buddy end up missing his, and finally got it to drop at leg at about 600 yards as it was hight tailing it.

Well, today was almost a great day, but I was alble to miss a couple. I did get about 8,000 new acres to hunt, so not all was lost. Gotta love these big open prairies.:)

Nice work Howler!

I watched a movie till about midnight tonite, then I looked at and I could see a good mile. So I figured with it being this bright out, I better get out calling. I called in 2 my first stand, but I didn't see them quick enuf and they winded me. I managed to stop one at a guess of 350 yards (hard to tell when its not light out), and I missed it. He ran about 20 yards and I mouth howled at him, stopped again, missed again, and then I stopped him one more time, and missed again. :(

Hopefully the morning brings some better luck for me.

So we gonna beable to see those hunts in the next verminator movie??? I sure hope so :). Ive about wore out that other verminator DVD I constantly watch it lol. the wifes threatened me a dozen times thats she gonna throw it out:D.

Well HighDesert, I ended up hunting alone Sat. and Sun. and on Fridaymy shooters both missed coyotes. SO, no footage caught on filmlast weekend.

Come on Rammer, I was countin' on ya to to more points on the board. Not that I'm cheering for your team to beat mine, but someone has to put more pressure on#40fan.;)

Howler - I'm trying my damdest, its real tough calling here this year for some reason. I hunted from 9:30pm till 2:30am callling last nite, didn't see a single dog or even get one to answer me. I think I've learned my lesson, I've been keeping a coyote callin diary, and whenever there is a Southwest wind like last nite, its not good calling.

Hang in there Rammer, as I'm sure you know how callin' has it's highs and lows, where a guy can get blanked a bunch and then all of a sudden the flood gates open and it seems almost easy all of a sudden.

No harm in trying new areas #40fan. I try to find at least one new area/ranch each year and am always trying to expand my "usual" stompin' grounds. Every now and then, those new areas quickly become your favorite spots. The three I got on Sunday all came in on three consecutive stands on this new ranch that I got on. Called in 4 on those three stands, so I have high hopes for the rest of this property.

Howler- I hope it gets better soon. I just loaded up 150 more 243 60gr Sierra HPs this evening. Then the fog rolled in wrecking my night of calling. I might pack it up an head to nebraske in the next few days if it doesn't get any better around here. Last year at this time I was close to 60dogs in my home area, this year I'm at 8 total. Something is the matter with it.....

I couldn't compete with some of you knowledgable guys on even ground... much less being stuck in these woods while you're loping across the prarie! LOL!

We're having a prettydecentyear actually but it's been shrouded by misses and cripples. November/December are our dead months due to the insane pressures put on our coyotes by the general public during other hunting seasons. October produced a lot of callups but very few kills. I finally dumped my primary night rig after wounding 8-10 and missing as many more. Shouldn't have waited as long as I did... but it was an expensive tool to let go. Now we're not wounding anything- and missing very few.

I'm hoping to break 50 and I still think it's doable. I have a trip planned next weekend to some open countryand two contest at the end of the month. All other out-of-state trips are on hold due to budget constraints but once I hit the cornrows and the rut comes around; we'll see some more fur. Hopefully a lot of it?


PS: This warm weather combined with the 25wssm has limited the number of pictures I take. Something about crows circling our parking lot turns offpotential clients. ???

I got this guy yesterday. My first contribution and first dog with this upper. He took a fatal V-max injection behind the right ear from about 200 yards. I was aiming for the shoulder but didnt account for wind drift. To think I might have missed him.

I got my first ever yote today. My dad pushed out a coyote for me today and I hit him 1 out of three tries on a dead run going sideways. The first shot he was coming towards me, but I jerked the shot and missed him. After that he turned sideways and picked up another 20 miles an hour. The second shot I didnt lead him enough and the third, I caught him just in front of the shoulders where the body meets the neck and I dropped him at 100 yards. shot him with my .222 CIL 830 50 gr HP. (50 points for team 8)

its lunch box upper me and a buddy pieced togther from extra parts. The upper reciever is a bushamster the barrel is a stainless 20" dpms bull I think the gas block is a CMMG or model 1 I cant remember. The bolt carrier assembly is from del ton and the forearm stock is a DPMS free float. The lower assembly I used from my other AR but sooner or later I think I may get a Cav Arms lower assembly. The scope is an older BSA that I peeled the BSA logo off of and glued a Leupold medallion I found one day at the range in its place. Its kinda funny when someone at the gun range approaches and comments on the nice leupold scope. LOL
