07 Predator contest submission pics.

This will be the place to post your 07 predator contest pics. It will be required that your weapon used is in the pic. with the predator/s. No way to make everyone include themselves in the pic., since some guys/gals may hunt by themselves and not have a camera with a timer and there is no way to enforece date stamped pics. either, so once again I stress that this is a contest run on the "HONOR" system. If you want to lie about weather or not you shot a predator or that you shot it during this contest period, nothing we can do about it. BUT if anyone is caught in a lie and there is photo effidence found, then that person will have all accumulated points removed. 2nd offense will have the person DQ'ed from the contest! SO, ONCE AGAIN, keep it clean, post tasteful pics., be honest, and mostly HAVE FUN in a little freindly competition!

Last nite I actually shot my first dog that would qualify for the contest, but I didn't have a camera with me, and I didn't have time today to go get a picture. This evening I was leaving the field again and another lil mangy bugger was on the gravel road. I had my Ruger 10/22 in my pickup, and here are the results. :D

Thats #1 for Team 6 :D

Got him this morning. Swore that I killed another with the shot gun, but with three of them running together it got pretty frantic in a hurry, and I wasn't able to keep track of where the one with the shot gun holes in him went.

I evidentlly don't know what I'm doing when it comes to posting pic's but here's a link to 2 coyotes I got this morning. If you could tell me how to post them maybe I can do it. If not maybe you can post it for me.

I really don't like the pic because it looks like the end of my barrel is tucked up under my collar, but believe me it's not!!! I was a good foot in front of me. If I would have seen this when I took the pic (self timer) I would have taken another one.

OH I forgot this is for team #4

wyote, all I had to do was click on your link and can see two nice coyotes and a SaaWeeet rifle set up. Nice job. I'll get your points added on.

I'm not the quickest on getting pics. posted either, BUT like I said, by clicking on your link I can see them fine.

Got myself another yote tonite on the way in from combing again! LOL

I seen it cross the road in front of me, he trotted out into a winter wheat field. Stayed in the headlights while I was digging for my Savage 243 on the backseat, stayed long enuf that I made a real low shot right behind the shoulder, then as he was running away I texas heart shot him.

I new you'd be a force to watch Rammer!;)I'll get it added. BUT while I'm here, I was out today shooting some test loads through my latest toy, and decided to do a stand while I was out. I used 40 gr. berger out of the .204 D-Tech and the shot was about 40 yards.

It was a very good day today. A couple of firsts for me. First time that I had more than one kill on a weekend and the first time I shot more than one in a day.

I saw more coyotes today than I have in a long time combined.

A pack of 5, possibly 6, busted me when I was trying to sneak into a set. Saw one while driving down the road. Saw and killed the first two pictured next. Saw and killed the last two pictured next. Then I saw a pack of three.

what cal/ are you using #40fan? you are putting the hurt on them. looks like a larger cal from the holes but i could be wrong. keep up the good work though. i will be heading out tonight and tomorrow morning to try and get a few more if the wind ever dies down. right now its blowing 30 mph.[:'(]

#40fan, was the wind not blowing down there today? I've never had much luck with a stiff wind blowing. I'll get'em added up, nice job.

Nasty wind around here today, and tomorrow with snow. Just figures, Monday will be the day to be out, and of course, I'll have to work![:@]

RE: 07 Predator contest submission pics.

The wind didn't hit here until 11:00 or so. I was 40 miles east of Pueblo though.

I am shooting a .243 with a Sierra 70 gr. Blitzkings. I don't know what is going on, but I haven't had anydo this kind of damage to these coyotes until today. The one that I shot yesterday was a nice clean kill. Today, all of themwere blow ups. I even tried to hide the bad side of them.

The last one pictured was shot at 431 yards. I went back this afternoon to range it. If you look at the picture, you will see that part of it's jaw is torn up. That is where I hit it on the first shot. I didn't see it run away or anything so I started to walk out towards it. When I got about 100 yards or so away,it stood up but had it's head way down low and was walking funny. I dropped to a sit and shot theside out ofit.

I have a few other pictures of coyotes shot with the same gun, same load, and none of them but one that I shot in the shoulder looked anything like these did.

yeah it happen. i have a pic of the other side of the two i shot last sunday. the big one i shot at 385 yards and hit it in the ass as you can see in the pic i put on here the other smaller one was taken at 225 yards and entrence wond wasnt bad but you dont wat to see the exit. i need to find a round that wolnt do as much pelt damage with out going down in calibers. any ideas. i can reload a certain round if need be.

Rammer 10-21-2007 12:29 AM

RE: 07 Predator contest submission pics.

I shoot Sierra 60gr HPs at 3600fps out of my 243, and I don't have any exit wounds unless you hit shoulder blades, and then its not even a 100% guarantee of an exit wound.

I shot the 70gr Blitz Kings for a while and I wasn't impressed with them too much, as they wrecked everything I shot with them.

Hornady 75gr HPs do a good job as well, and are fur friendly.

just wondering but whats the wepon have to do with it?

Howler 10-22-2007 08:12 PM

RE: 07 Predator contest submission pics.

It's just what we ended up with in the rules. Not that it will keep anyone from picking up aroad kill and laying a gun beside it for a pic. or anyone from trapping them and laying a gunbeside it for a pic., but it's a rule we ended up with! Heck, he's on my team, so I'm hoping he's got another pic. with a weapon included.
A pic. with each team memberand thier weapon along with the predator would've been better, but for thosethat hunt alone and a camera with no timer would've had troubles.
A goofy rule, BUT it is what we got!I think most of us are interested in seeing what weapons everyone else uses! Or at least I am!

what cal are ya shooting? Id use a V-max in just about any cal just keep them light and fast. I push a 55 grain V-max out of my Savage .223 at 3,300 to 3,350 fps at close range and long range i have yet to have one exit.

I thought about picking up a 204 and trying it out..
Just curious on the pro and cons on it..
How many shots thru the barrel before it gets worn out from the speeds of the cartidge.. It's a bet faster than the 22-250 and also curious about your opinion on it compared to a 22-250 if you ever compared them in the field.
I would rather have the opinion of someone who doesn't get paid to write articles if you know where I am coming from..

I sent ya a PM, but if I only use this rifle for calling coyotes, the rifle/barrel will out last me.

RE: 07 Predator contest submission pics.

I honestly would not worry a bit about the 204 being a barrel burner like the 22-250. even though the 204 is pushing higher velocities, velocity really doesnt have asmuch to do with burning up a barrel as does chamber pressures and throat errosion. the 204 runs at or slightly above 223 chamber pressure and the average chamber pressure of a 22-250 is a good 5,000 psi higher. asfar as barrel life is concerned the 204 should be compared to a .223 rather than a 22-250.

my last suggestion was intended with the idea of using small cals like a 204 or 223. In your case with a 308 and maintaining minimal pelt damage I suggest going the opposite direction and using a full weight FMJ if legal in your state, if not? Id go with a sturdy soft point like core lokts or interlocks or even a bonded core like a TB bear claw or nosler partition. with a cal like the 308 you want minimal expansion of the projectile and have a clean pass through. also stick to bullets in the 150 to 180 grain class so you dont lose trajectory from low ballistic coefficients like you would find from 125 grain and lighter bullets the lighter bullets in a 308 really kill your effective range and trajectory.

Back when I first got into yote hunting I too used a 308 it was my only scoped gun at the time and i found that 110 grain 30 cal V-max bullets are just murder on a yote even though they are great in light cals they are still just to much in a 30 cal they'll fragment on impact and the KE wont dispurse fast enough and the exit wound will look like a 12 ga blast coming from the inside out. good luck
