I got skunked yesterday. Didn't even see a coyote. The only thing I can guess is that one of the neighboring ranches has a dead cow that had all the coyotes sucked off the land I was hunting. Plenty of tracks in the snow, just no coyotes around that were making any fresh tracks.

Howler- You make a good point, we do need to slow #40 down ALOT so someone can at least give him a lil competition!

I took a trip to southern Colorado this last weekend to do some calling with a friend of mine. Said he hadn't be out yet this winter, and it showed. Those coyotes came to the call like they hadn't been called before.:)So ina day and a half, we called in 15 including three sets of triples and two doubles. We both missed our share and obviously had our share of could've, would've, should've's![:@]We managed to kill 4, three by me. We each missed a couple and he dropped one with his 22-250 that we never recovered, although it crumpled like someone pulled a rug out from under it. I videoed on that stand, and looked like the bullet hit at the base of the neck, BUT after the action on the stand was over, there were three on that stand, we walked out to recover the coyote and never found it. Not sure if the V-max splashed, or what. I can't help to think the coyote was dead, we just needed more blood or more snow to track it down. Also found bobcat tracks on two stands, but never saw a cat. :(
On the way home Sunday, I stopped at some state trust land and did several stands by myself. Once again found bobcat tracks but no cat. I did call in a pair of coyotes and managed to screw that up. So Sunday was a dry run in some awesome looking country.

Not far from Elizabeth. Yes called him in for my son's first.Grew up in Simla and our family still has a ranch near Calhan. Only get down fora few dog hunts a year now days. From the mid 70s to 91, I hunted dogs almost every weekend from Thankgiving until mid February when the hides started to slip.

Got out this morning for a few stands. Called in a single and a double on my first two stands and managed to kill two of the three. Should've quit then and headed home cause I never saw another coyote after that. Got kind of warm thisafternoon, so I came in early. Still no sign of rubbing here yet. I used my 35 gr. bergers this morning and had an exit on the female. Hit her in the neck, but the exit hole wasn't too bad, about a silver dollar. The male I got had no exit hole.

15-25 MPH winds for three days.... temps hovering 45-62 with rain for the last week. I've made 8 stands in as many days... this is torture!!!!

Ok So its been a while since i been on. The batteries in my camera have been dead so i had to throw a couple of these in a snow bank till i got batteries but you can tally me up for 4 of the dogs. My buddy in the picture got the other dog and the cat i thought id throw those in the pic for a figuratively speaking cherry on top. Calling has been hard lately my stand/dog ratio has gone down considerably. I found a new call that i love you can check it out on www.southdakotamade.com they are Predator Getters. Custome made from deer horn. i was a little skepticle at first but mine sounds great i got the caller and dad got the howler both are great.

Yeah, they were all in either old houses, barns with wood floors in the tac rooms, up in barns hay lofts with straw, etc. Pretty darned fun evening. I've never hunted behind coon hounds till then! Going again Sunday I believe.
