Don't currently have a good pellet air gun but I used to. Excellent way to dump pests! Now, I heard from many (but years ago) that the 177 penetrated better than the .22's. Would love to hear if that is the current impression.

No, but I can tell you that I have had my RWS for 15-16 years and it has always performed perfect for me andIdo no maintenance on it, just shoot it.I have shots thousands of pellets through it and it shoots very accurately. German engineering and being from IA we all probably have some german in us.

Mine is very accurate. I have taken squirels at 35 yds., I believe it would be just aseffective at 60.

Penetration is the issue with most airgun needs. A .177 would probably penetrate more because of the smaller size, but then it can zip through a bird wounding or just making it die later. A .22 going within a couple hundred fps of a .177 and the same make of pellet will drop birds better, but it probably won't be noticed.
