Default praire dog questions

hey my grandpa and a few of his buddies were planning a trip out west again and i got invited. they used to go back in the late 70's and all through teh 80's but when i came in 90 he hasnt been since. hes 84 now and wants one last go around. im gonna take my remington 223, savage 223, remington 243, anshultz 22hornet, marlin 17hmr and 22wmr, and a 204 remington. i was gonna take 200 rounds for everything but the 223. i was thinking about 5-600 223 rounds. is this way too much. where we will be there there is a tone and the old time whos got the land said that would be about right number of rounds.

I don't believe it would be too much ammo. Just one question though-why take 2 .223's with you that you own, unless the other one is for someone else??? Just wondering, since you listed the guns you are taking included 2 .223's. Anyways, you should have plenty of firepower, and just make sure every gun shoots the way its suppose to. I have heard too many stories on varmint trips that people take their arsenal, and forgot to check each firearms out before the trip. Nothing like getting there, and your tool doesn't perform the way it needs to. Good luck.

Not taking enough ammo. is more of a problem than taking too much ammo. I'd say you're close to having enough for a good two day, maybe a two and a half day of shooting! Make sure you take your gun cleaning supplys, and switch out guns frequently to let them cool, and also, make sure you store your extra ammo. in a cooler, or at least not in the direct sun light! Make sure ya take some sort of sun shade, large umbrella is what I use, it just makes it more fun to sit in the shade with a cold drink, a clean/cool gun and lots of targets and more ammo!!
Have fun!!

thanks. i called my contact again last ngiht and he said it sounded good but i think i may put in a bit more ammo anyway. already got all my cleaning stuff in a big range box so tath will be sure to go. i was doing so looking and it says to get some camo material and coat hangers. you make kinda a canopy over yourself to shade the sun. the 2 223 was one of my grandpas ideas. he told me to bring most what i got cuz well i got it i might as well use it and for cooling and just changing it up a bit is the reason. in the last month or less i have shot pry half the guns on the list and im sure they will be fine but all theguys that are going are gonna have kinda a going away party. basicly were meeting at my uncles acrage to test shoot and make sure we have everything and then gonna grill some brats and have fun. figured it out today in study hall. there will be 5 guys 18 guns nad over 5,000 rounds ammo. should last pretty well. im really looking forward to the 204 and 17hmr. i shot a few squirels with it and imagin it wont be too much different but after looking at the damage a 204 does to a fox. i think the p-dog will be rather interesting. lol. well what power scope would be best. ive got 3-9-40 world class scopes on all but 3. my 243 has a tasco exp 3-9 and my 17hmr and 22mag have 3-9-32. should work shouldnt it. my grandpa only used to use fixed 6 powers. but his were old so we replaced them through the years. and its not really to easy to find a 6x. the rancher says the longest shots would pry be 300 but most would be 100-150. is my 3006 to much to bring just for fun. or would it be handy to throw into the mix? how would 1000 rounds 223 be? figuring me and if anyone else runs out or anything that also part of teh reasons for 2 223's.

Your scopes will be fine. If the rancher is telling you that most shots are in the 150 yard range, then apparently the critters haven't been shot at much. The only reason you would need more scope pwoer is if you were wanting to pick some targets off beyond the 300 yard range. That's when have more scope power comes in handy. BUT keep in mind, if the days are hot, often times mirage, or heat waves, get to the point that long range shooting just isn't possible.
You'll be fine with what you got!
