I am looking to do a self-guided P-Dog hunt next year (2008)in South Dakota.
From what I have read you can buy a license over the counter and hunt public land and Indian Reservation lands with minimal fees. Finding somewhere to stay is sometimes a problem as there are very few motels in these small towns.
My brother went a couple of years ago, he paid $100 a day for a "guide" who he only saw twice in 4 days! On the plus side, he did fire almost 1800 round of .22, .223, .308, 30-06, even a few .44 shot shells. (Snakes)
Do some research and I am sure you will have a good time and not have to spend a bunch.
Good Hunting,
