We have voles all over our freaking yard. I only killed one by cutting it's head off with the mower.[:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(]Poor thing, but it deserved it. I was wondering how to eliminate voles without using chemicals, food, etc. I do have the time however to go out and shoot some but they are usually too far away or something. How do I kill them?

Poor thing??????Ah man, you are not one of those people........
Voles are pretty much in the same game as moles, gophers, and other mammals/rodents. There is a new harmless gas going to be on the market for the homeowner to be put down in the hole, and it becomes a concusion gas for the underground varmint. I forget what it is called, but look out for it. The other thing that I have done is taken a small plastic bottle, thin like a small coke bottle, and used dry ice and warm water. I put the dry ice in, with the warm water, put the cap on tight, and put it down any available tunnel system of hole, and cover it. Plug your ears, because it will be loud. This has been successful for me, especially around piping and gardens. Just make sure you don't have grumpy neighbors that will complian about the noise. Good luck.

I would say they are in a dryer type ground where moles are in the heavy moisture type. A mole colony will not have exposed holes to the tunnels, while the voles seem to have holes open like a gofer or somthing. I might try a gopher trap on them like this.... http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/SPEC/pick-gophertrap.htm

If there like moles.
You can put those little wind mills in your yard.
You know the ones that look like flowers or
Birds with the wings that spin.
It makes a vibration in the ground.
And moles can't stand it and will leave and go some place else.
So if voles are like moles it will make them leave.
I hope this helps.
