i was just curious what the smallest caliber would be that you would use for coyotes?shots will probably be out to 100 yards. thanks for the info
Assuming the state allows the use of centerfire rifles (some don't, so check local game regs), I prefer a .22 caliber centerfire. I'm not saying smaller guns won't kill coyotes, but that is where I have my limit set. Rifles like the .222, .223, and .22-250 gained their popularity and reputation for a reason. I have never had trouble downing coyotes with my .223. The smaller the caliber, the less the room for error. Especially with coyote hunting, the shot opportunities you get will be limited, and they will pass very quickly. You want enough gun to take advantage of those opportunities.

coyotestalker......my point was that the rimfires are to small for coyotes and should be used for squirrels and other small game. i am the last guy that wants to hike for5 or6 hours, make15 or20 setups then watchmy targetrunway after being shot. hope that clears things up ya.

I have used my .22 mag and have never lost a yote using it; however,
patients and shot placement is critical. My prefered yote getter is a .243
pushing a80gr psp from Remington. Good Luck Huntin' !!
