I've never been for elk, but I personally would start at 30-06 and up. 300 Mag should be ideal, I think. Especially for long shots. my vote for 300 mag.

I've been noticing that some deer mounts seem to have a lacquer typecoat on them, and appear glossy. I've seen others that don't look like that at all, and appear more natural. Do some taxidermists...

Is a 150 grain partition/xp3 ok to use on elk? I got a 300wsm but I know people use less grains from smaller calibers.

How do you determine how old a deer is? I've heard that you can tell by their teeth? I've put some close-up pictures of my buck on here to show. Any help is great. -Thanks

No problem man, I've just always used a .30-06 until now. I got a nice trigger job done and evenput a KDF muzzle break put on it. They're great and even make the rifle look alot cooler....

I had the same experience. I shot a whitetail at about 15 yards right in the shoulder with a 150 grain remington from a .30-06 It knocked the deer clear on its ass!! I gave it a few seconds then...

The Ram look Awseome! I can't wait. I think I might do it in the spring by the way it sounds, although I personally couldn't see much of a difference at all from the mounted ones....

Well after many trails of shooting with friends, it has been narrowed down to the trigger squeeze. it's got about an 8 pound trigger on it right out of the box. Gonna take it in and get a trigger...

The older gentleman in the store was telling me that before Winchester stopped making their guns here in the states, they pushed out some crappy material. Anyone heard that?
