RE: New Turkey Hunter

I strongly suggest you get a call and learn to use it. No matter how well you have patterned them, things don't always go as planned. Besides, you will find, if you stick with it, that calling a...

RE: Mouth Call for Beginners?????

It took me several years, off and on, to finally make a yelp on one. The single reeds just didn't seem to work for me. Then I tried a Primos true double. I learned on that as it seemed to be...

RE: Patterned the 10ga today!

gobble stopper, I have bought mixed boxes of loads from Nitro last year and this year and they let me get 2 of each shot size. Got my last box within the last 2 weeks. Either they are changing...

RE: Decoys or Not?

Well said, ttracker. Decoys should be well down the list below calling, knowledge of area, and knowing when to move on a bird. If you can't leave them in the truck and hunt with confidence, then...

RE: Tip on patterning for Vitals

Go ahead and post it whereever you want. The part about using a 10 inch circle to compare patterns came from Nitrocompany. The part about the "see through" target just came to me one day while I...

Tip on patterning for Vitals

Just thought I'd throw out an idea that I started using a couple of years ago.

Take a large sheet of paper and draw a 10 inch circle on it. Use a blank piece with no vitals drawn on it. Also...

RE: NWTF Website: Anybody else can't post there?

YES! Let me tell you, they had one heck of a productive board last year. A LOT of traffic. Was great. But they have changed the format this year for some reason. Now very few posts. I cannot...

RE: Knowing when to say when!

I agree. A tough old bird on public land is gonna be hard anyway. One thing you don't want to do is spook him after he has heard your calls all morning. Then he won't ever come to you unless you...

RE: 10 Gauge Shooters - Input Please?

If you have the money to spend on it, then do it. You really get the extra shot especially with the custom loads. I push 3 ounces of lead out the barrel with each shot. I can get about 10 extra...

RE: 10ga choke restrictions

gobble stopper is correct. If you were able to get a 12 GA diameter full choke on that gun you would either blow the pattern... or the end of the barrel off!

No jakes!

RE: SP-10 Choke Tube and Shot, what to use?

I have the same gun. Almost any aftermarket choke will be better than the Rem factory choke. I think the factory xfull turkey is around a .720 or .730. I have a Hastings .690 which is usually...

RE: Fairly New Have a ? on setting up after gobble.

Always remember to make sure there are no obstructions (fence, creek, etc.) and you are roughly on his level or higher. No obstructions usually means being on the same ridge.

If the above is true...

RE: Turkey gun

Williams firesights are really good. I use a Hastings .690 choke, but know folks that like the Rhino (expensive!). Read posts on Nitrocompany shells. They are awesome in a 10 GA. (3 ounces of...

RE: Nitro Shells

You are correct, in my opinion, that 7.5 shot is not worth much past 40 yards. Nitro says they act as a buffer that holds the larger shot in a tighter pattern. But I still will not use the loads...

RE: Heavy Shot

Nitrocompany makes 10 GA loads with hevishot. I talked to Ray about them and he says the Hevishot as it comes to him will score barrels. I also saw a warning on Remington's hevishot loads that say...

RE: SP-10 owners. what choke and shells shoot best?

I have the sp10 in the turkey special with a 23 inch barrel.

I've had excellent success with a Hastings .690 choke and Nitrocompany's 101L load with 3 ounces of nickel plated #4s. Outpatterned...

RE: Nitro Shells

I use them. As of now, I can only speak of their 10 GA loads. However, I've just ordered some of the 3inch 2.25 ounce loads for my wife's 870 Express and hope to pattern them in the next couple of...

RE: Butski Game Calls

I used to use Primos until one day an old turkey hunter from Alabama that knows Butski told me I ought to try one of Paul's diaphragms. Being a true "southerner", I declared there was no way a...

RE: #4 or #6 shot?

Pattern the gun with the heaviest loads of 4s, 5s and 6s. It may be hard to find turkey loads in a 16 ga, but try your best to find copper plated shot. Use the one that patterns best at, say 30 to...

RE: GRASSES FOR TURKEYS

Turkeys are in fields during the spring more for the bugs than the grasses. That's not to say they won't eat grass blades or clover leaves, 'cause they will. But the hens are trying to get protien...

RE: Whats your turkey load this spring?

Nitrocompany custom loads.
10GA loaded with 3 ounces of #4 nickel shot.
Even the worst of the Nitros I test fired more than DOUBLED the number of shot in the target over factory loads.

No...
