10 pt - - Every time I hear from you 10 gauge guys it gets me more to thinking about going with the Big 10 also. Ever try the Nitro Ammo 3 oz loads for the 10 gauge? (Then again, how dead do you need the bird to be?) - - Good Hunting!, - - Pointshoot

Went to the range today and shot my browning gold 10ga, and I was very happy with the results. I knew that #5's shot best out of it but I did not know whether to shoot the 2oz or the 2-1/4oz. I was using a truglo choke and winchester shells. I shot once at 30 yards and they both shot about the same, siving the paper. The turkey target was coverered in shot. Then I went out to 40 yards and was very happy with what I saw. Using winchester #5's 2oz of shot I put 18 in the vitals and 44 total in his head and neck counting the vital shots. The 2-1/4oz put 10 in the vitals and a total of 38 in his head and neck at 40 yards. So I think I will go with the 2oz load. They are faster and they patterned just a tad better. Also on the 2oz of shot I put 249 shots on the paper and the 2-1/4oz shot put 220. So I believe I will go with the 2oz load of #5's.

FYI to all 10 ga owners and pointshoot777(future 10 ga owner), i recieved an email from ray at nitro and he informed me that you can mix up a box of shells to try different loads and shot sizes. i wanted to try 2 of each shot size but he said you can only get a minimum of 5 in each shot size per box. maybe if we put the heat on them a little to "mix it up a little more" they will break down and give in to our demands<img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>just kidding ray. from all ive read on here and other boards i think these shells are at least worth the time and $$$ to try em out. im going to order some this week, about $150.00 worth, to test them for myself in my sp-10 and i will surely post the results. safe hunting.

Hello everyone Im back from last year. Im the guy that shoots the 341/2 10 ga NE. Looks like your at it again. Go with the nitros because the factorys dont even come close. The hast is the best choke Ive tested so far.It beat the rino and kicks probably because the hast isnt ported.

10 Point -
I first started thinking about the Big 10 when hunting Canadian geese this last season. The weather was too warm and there weren't as many birds. Those that were out there seemed to be much more nervous and wouldn't come in very close. We had to pass shoot them from 40-45 yds plus with our 3 1/2" 12 gauge guns shooting steel shot. (In the past, we were able to bring them in much closer to our decoys.) Often it took several shots to put those big birds down, (undoubtedly our shooting could be vastly improved !) Anyway, one of the guys used a 10 gauge BPS and any goose within that 40-50 yard range, went down like a rock when hit by the 10.) I'm really looking at the new Browning Light 10. It would be an advantage when goose hunting and if I'm gonna buy one I might as well use it for turkeys too. The guy that I go hunting with has done lots of turkey hunting and guiding. He said the only gun he's seen that knocked a turkey down without any flopping around by the bird after the shot, - was taken by an SP-10. Good Hunting !, - - - Pointshoot

Pointshoot777, no I have not tried the Nitro shells 3oz loads. I heard they pattern real good out of most guns. The only problem that I would see out of a load that heavy is it being slow. I don't think I need to try them Nitro loads because the Winchester #5's pattern excellent out of 10ga gold hunter. I have not taken a turkey with thid set up yet, but hopefully I will this spring. I use to use just the full choke and winchester #6's and Maytom talked me into buying a truglo choke tube and I am glad I did. With the full choke my pattern really started to open up at 40 yards, with the truglo choke it is still very dense. In my opinion, the 10ga is a great turkey gun, Yes it is heavy, but with the right choke and ammo, you can hammer them suckers. I hunt some fields that can produce some long shots. When I use to use a 3" mag I was affraid to shoot out there at 45-50 yards at a gobbler that is hung up, but now with this 10ga I have no doubt in my mind if one hangs up out there 45-50 yards that I can hammer him. If you have the money, give a 10ga a shot, you will be very impressed on how they shoot and pattern.

Gobble stopper - looking forward to hearing about your results with the Nitro in your SP-10. Especially interested in hearing about your recoil tolerance after patterning all those big boys!(Last year I patterned my 870 Super Mag pump gun and volunteered to pattern my brothers gun for him, too. So it was a day of 3 1/2" turkey loads. Big mistake ! I didn't set up right on my bench, leaned too far forward into the gun, and got a couple of good hard scope bites right in the forehead. Next time my brother can pattern his own d*mned gun and I'm going to take my time and spread the job out over plenty of time! Also, I'm not going to use the same kind of bench rest set up. Of course, if I go with a Light Gold 10 I'm talking about a gas gun vs. my old pump gun and a shotgun that weighs two pounds more than my old shotgun. I'd be curious to see how 3 oz. loads would feel through such a gun. Maybe someone can comment on that. Good Hunting!, - - Pointshoot
