Mine was bought from a dealer and the first time it was sent into Leupold for repair the dealer sent it in. The second time I sent it in directly to them.

I once again can't comment on the other scopes as I didn't personally purchase them but I know mine came from a local gun shop that's a Leupold dealer.

I highly doubt its the scopes..... its more then likely your scope mounts are loosening up on ya.

Bashing a manufacture because you think you got a bad scope just isn't good practice. I probably own more Leupold scopes than you have guns, I had one that didn't track properly and I sent it back they made the repair and it has went from there to win many competitions. Leupold has sold many, many scopes that have gone on to winning more competitions than any of us can imagine. Are they the best scope on the market, no way! They are however probably the best scope on the market for the money.

If you aren’t happy with your Leupold just go to Wal-Mart buy yourself a $30 Trashco and be happy that you bought yourself a scope just as good as a Leupold and saved 200 bucks. I’ll keep buying Leupolds and other high end optics and take my chances.

More than likely I will just spend $200 or so in the future and get a Burris Fullfield II again that's way better than most of the decently priced Leupolds. Seems like it's better until you get into the VX-III line which is way more expensive. However, if it was between the $30 Tasco and the Leupold I'd for sure choose the $30 Tasco.

I will say I know a lot more guys with cheap scopes and have used 2 or 3 myself and I don't know many that have had failures. Not saying they are great just everyone I personally know has had a failure with a Leupold where as I know quite a few guys with cheap scopes as in $50-100 Simmons mostly and a couple Tasco's and Bushnells and not many of them have had failures.

I'm just saying I've had bad luck with mine. I would have chalked it up to having a lemon as I know every company makes lemons. However, it seems like it's more of a crappy quality scope when I only know 2 others with Leupold scopes and both have had exactly the same problem.


In my reading online I've read a lot of reports of people saying the VX-I isn't a very good scope. Why put out a pos scope and charge $250 for it? That's not a company I want to deal with. For $250 a scope should never ever have a issue.

As for you owning more Leupolds than I do guns you probably do. You wouldn't have to own very many Leupold scopes to own more than I do guns since I don't have many.

The VX-I is not a POS.....it is atleast as good a scope as the old Vari-X ii. Having said that, there are other scopes that you can get that will give you better glass for the money.

Been using the same 3.5X10X50 Vari x-lll on my 7 rem mag for at least 15 years and on other rifles before that never an issue been dropped on the road off the truck just about any bad thing you can think of.Got a M-8 4x on my encore BP same deal.Sorry about the bad luck with yours.

my current cabelas catalogs state that the rifleman and the vx1 models are american made, is cabelas lying too? personally Id trust them over some internet site no ever heard of, did it occur to you, that mabye mcsports is incorrect or simply misprinted origon- china? I bought a couple vx1s a couple years ago and they defiantly said made in usa on them, and Im sure they still do. my vx3 definatly does. as stated luepold glass is not as good as some others in the same price range but they are definatly well built scopes. there are at least 4 other points on the rifle that could account for it losing its zero.

If the Leupold scope has a gold ring it may be made in the USA. If the scope does not have a gold ring it is for sure made in China. Many of the Leupold spotting scopes, range finders and binos are also made in China.

Like I said before, I own about a dozen Leupold scopes and have never had any trouble with them. However, the very fact that Leupold will not tell you that their made in China product is made in China has turned me off. Sounds like they are ashamed of some of their products. I will never buy another Leupold product.

Actually, I believe that the VX-1 is slightly better than the old Vari-X II, which is one of the scopes that built Leupold's reputation for quality. I have 2 Vari-X II's, both more than 20 years old, and 2 VX-1's all 3 x 9, and the VX-1's seem to be a bit brighter. Yes Martha, they have the old style friction adjustments, but unless one spends a lot of time tinkering with the adjustments, this is not a hardship. All 4 of these scopes, along with 4 other Leupolds, dating back to 1971, have been absolutely trouble free.
