I have been using Federal Premium 150gr. I get less than 1/2" at 100 yards sometime 1/4" groups. I know there's no need to reload with these results.
What reloading combo should I start with? What load would would get me as close to these factory loads as a starting point?

The 280 is the first cartridge that I ever reloaded for. I have had the most uniform results using IMR4831. This is in bullet weights ranging from 120-160 gr. Lately I have been using a max load of RL19 behind a 140 gr. NBT as my deer buster with a Federal 210 primer. Over my chrony I get a velocity a few fps above what is listed in the Nosler reloading guide. If you don't really need to reload the Federal Premium load you mentioned is probably the best all around load for the 280. This combination is enough for elk as long as you take broadside shots and limit your range to 300 yards or less.

I always had good results with H4831 sc and a 162 gr btsp. If your rifle likes the fed loads stick with that bullet weight and design and try a few powders to see what you like. Good luck
