I now have a .308 Win in a Savage bolt action.
There are hundreds of different loads out there to try, and I realize that each rifle has it' s own pet load. However, many times I notice that one load in particular seems to be repeated over and over for a particular caliber. In other words, when viewing reloads for 300 WM powders like IMR4350 and RL22 seem to be a favorite.
So, my question is, what is your favorite load for a .308?? (hopefully in bullet weights of 150 grain-168)
Thank you!

well - the .308 is actually pretty easy to load for. Some of the most commonly used powders include Win 748, IMR 4064 and 4895, Hodgdon Varget, 4895, & BL-C(2), and Alliant Reloader 15. Any of these work well in a semi-auto action and work well with bolts too, with just a little heavier load.
All my .308s are semis And I' ve had excellent results using 42.5gr of the 4895s with 165gr bullets and also 45.5gr of Reloader 15 with 150gr FMJs.
BTW - these loads use heavy, military-spec cases (LC or IMI) - for equivalent results with lighter Commercial brass, you will have to add up to 2gr more powder.
Good Luck

A load that should work well with any .308 is a 165-168 gr bullet with nearly the maximum published charge of IMR 4064- (I think its around 43.0 gr, but work up to it) This is the typical match grade ammo load. I use exactly 41.0 gr 4064 with that weight of bullet with the same results- except with slightly reduced velocity and greatly reduced recoil.
