I purchased a 270wsm 3 years ago, thinking this would be a good caliber ( beings I hunted 20+ years with a 270win with good success ) I reload all of my own bullets and with the old 270win I had it dialed down to about 1/2" Three shot group at 100yds. but what I like best was that this 130 grain siarra bt had the knock down power ( on Minnesota whitetails )from 50yds to 300yds it would leave a great exit hole and drop them in their tracks, I reloaded that 130 siarra to travel at 3100 fps..
Now this 270wsm is another story, I don't use the 130 sierra in this gun because I was told that I need to use a premium bullet and the sierra would break up on close shots because of the higher velocity. so I tried the 130 grain ballistic tips ( they sucked ) they were very accurate but when hitting a whitetail in the front shoulder at 75 yrds it fragmented, didnt even exit. Last year I aquired a box of Barnes xlc 270 130grn bullets loaded them the same as I did the ballistic tips. shot another average deer at between 75 and 100 yards. ( Had to shoot it twice behind front shoulder ) bullet holes same size coming out as they did going in.
Im reloading to achevie around 3200fps. what bullet can I use that wont blow up ( like the ballistic tips ?)Orlike the barnes XLC( and not expand at all )??????
There has got to be a bullet out there that works at 50Yds as well as 300YDs and at a higher velocity ( 3200 + fps ). Please help "" Steve

While I haven't had any problem pushing NBT's over 3K, you have and your experience should set the bar IMO. My advice would be try the Nosler Parts 130-150gr, it'll handle 0-300yards & shoulder or rib shots with ease. If it doesn't shoot trythe bonded polymers like the NAB or hornady IB.
I as well used the 130 GK's out of my 270win, no issues just found a BT load that shot better and provided similar effects on deer sized game. I wouldn't be affraid of running some of them in the 270wsm either. IMO if you hit a shoulder at a rate of speed with the GK, etc I'd say they'll come abit unglued as well, the nos. part or similar controlled expansion bullets will not be as fragile and lead to better penetration.
BTW Barnes Triple Shocks expand more reliably then the original X's IME, they retain the same weight so wound channels are smaller then say a Partition but much better then the orginal X. They now havea tipped version which i have not used, but assume it would provide some improvement on expansionto the standard TSX. I have found the TSX to be more accurate and foul less then the original x's as well.
Good Luck
