Well I know it sounds like a dumb ? but I was reading a artical in a magazine about accurate shooting and they were saying a lot of stuff about B/C, bullet speedand how you need to determin the rate of twist you praticular rifle has and match the bullet to the rifeling... So I figured I come hear and see if anybody knows what twist my rifle has and if there is a magic bullet that should shoot good threw it
My gun is the Remington Woodsmaster 750 with the longer barrel(not the carbine)
Thanks for any help

Well according to the bbl manufactures a .30 cal at 1-10 should shoot up to a 215gn round nose or based on my expirance a 195-200 gn spirre pt and about a 190 boat tailfairly well at factory velocities . Cast bullets blow up around 2100 fps in my savage . I'm yet to work up a load for my 760 game master. If you'd like I'll pass along my good and bad as I go along . I've heard that the 760s and 7600s are hard to get under 3"

The only DUMB question is the one you fail to ask when you need the information!!
Most every.30/'06will have a 1/10" twist, and that'll work for ANY .30-caliber ammunition made in the USA for hunting use, with bullets ranging in weight from 110 grains up to 220!
What are you going to use it for? If deer hunting in MD, use 150-grain or 165 grain bullets. If hunting elk or BLACK bear, use 165 or 180-grain bullets. If hunting grizzly bear or moose, use PREMIUM 180 or 200-grain bullets to get the extra penetration for these big mean varmints!
There is no magic bullet. The magic comes from proper placement of the bullet you choose, and that comes from practice. The 1/10 twist has been STANDARD for big .30-cal. cartridges since 1892, when the US Army adopted the .30/40 Krag, and has been the standard twist in the .30/'06 since 1906. It works with ALL bullets, with a few exceptions that you don't need to worry about until you start competing in 1,000-yard rifle matches, and when you do this, I have no doubt that you will be using a specially-made rifle.......
(It sounds to me like you may be a novice when it comes to rifle shooting. It really makes me mad that some dork will write an article for a magazine that gets newbies all concerned about such things as the twist of rifling in an average hunting rifle, and make them start worrying about whatbullet to use. In your case, bullet weight and construction need to be selected based on what kind of game you will be seeking, and the most probable ranges at which you will be shooting, rather than if your rifling twist is appropriate! Believe me, it IS!!)

eldequello is correct, the only thing you can do other than handloading is to get a box of each brand in the wieght you need to use and shoot them. Fire three round groups at target, mark the target of which brand ammo,go to the next brand and a new target, so on and so forth, once done study each target and find the best grouping and go with it. Some rifles like one brand, others will shoot anything with the same results. Best results are gained if you shoot off a vice!.

I'm not trying to stir up the bucket here . But Mmy savage 308 is 1-12 and my 3006 clocks on cleaning rod at 1-8.5 maybe 1 was a spec order . the 308 won't shoot 180s. the 06 doesnt shoot anything well over 2650 fps . spent $200 on factories 25 on lc42 hours at the range scope, mounts etc handloaded 50.3 4350 cci large rifle hornady 3033 cover 10 with a sivler dollar ,cast bullets exit in a cloud a 2100.

Regarding your 1/12" twist .308, (which is standard for that caliber) the two .308's I had with 1/12" twists worked very well with bullets up to the 220-grain Hornady roundnoses, and everything lighter than that. My load with the 220 was 48 grains of Norma N205, and later, 48 of MRP. It was a great deer-stopper up to 150 yards or so, with a MV of 2300 FPS.
