Rechambering the 30-30 Win. to the 30-30 Ackley Improved is done on a daily occurance. Depending on barrel length, you can gain from 100 to 250 fps. in velocity. In guns like the T/C Contender, with the improved case design having minimal body taper, it reduces the backthrust that is transmitted against the breech face. In the N.E.F. single shot rifles, I have a lot of guys using the 30-30 Ackley Improved as an easy carrylight weight varmint rifle and they are shooting the Hornady 110 gr. V-MAX to 3,000 fps. with amazing accuracy....

Regular 30-30 loading in the middle and the "improved" version on either side....

The little rifle pictured above is an N.E.F. that I shortened the barrel on, addad a muzzle brake after recrowning the barrel and rechambered it to the 30-30 Ackley Improved...

Shooting SPEER's 150 gr. Grand Slam bullet at 2,500 fps., I was able to harvest a buck and doe this year here in the Adirondack mountains. Both shots were high in the front shoulder and neither deer took more than two steps before falling over dead....
