Thinking about loading some 107 gn Sierra MatchKings for my Tikka 243. When doing some reading, Sierra said that the 107 gn Matchking requires a 1x8 twist or faster. My Tikka has a 1x10 twist. Will this be a problem, and should I consider a different bullet? I plan to shoot long range paper target at my club. Range from 100 to 400 yards. Your input would be a great help to me…

I am no expert in this area, but it is my understanding that the 6mm rem deals with the 105 grain bullet better than the 243 because of the faster twist rate. Thats all I know and it may not be right. EJ

I tried everything to get this bullet to shoot in a 1:10 Douglas barrel and, even with the higher velocity of the 6MM-284, it didn't work. Interesting how these VLD bullets will not actually tumble when you don't quite have enough rotation - they just shoot very poorly. I now have a 1:9 Jeff Lawrence barrel in the 6MM-284 and it shoots 1/4" with the Hornady A-Max 105 grain. Been meaning to give the 107 Sierra a re-test in this new barrel -even though Sierra says a 8.5 inch twist is minimum for the .243 with this bullet.

for those ranges Id go with something in 80 to 85 grains. Ive noticed even in my 6mm rem with a 1 in 9 twist to have trouble producing any kind of decent accuracy past 200 yards with bullets heavier than 95 grains. ive had my best long range accuracy with 85 grain sierra gamekings

I would try the 85 gr BTHP also,Where I shoot the range only goes to 300 but the 85 gr should do well at 400 too.The group below at 300 was shot with an out of the box rem classic.Haven't shot any more groups this tight but have shot some in the 1/2 to 1in groups.

My Remington 700 sporter in 243 loves H4831SC under a Hornady 100 grain BTSP interloc. It also shoots the 87 grain Vmax into less than an inch. Try these bullets and see what you get.

I found that the h4831 does well with the 100 gr bullets also. The target below I used the rem core-loc,but useing the core-loc I found that it had good days and bad days, out of 2 remingtons and one tikka they shot exceptional well one day and one day not so good.So I would give the hornadys a try too.
The bottom is the 85 gr load that I shot the one holer with its not a one holer but respectiable for a stock remington with a 22 in barrel.
