new Rugar 44 mag what bullet

Your choices are almost endless. Its hard to beat H110 from Hodgdon for powder for full power loads. For practice loads that are fun to shoot, try the 240 grain lead SWC with 8.0 grains of Unique. If you plan to hunt deer with your 44 Mag, I would suggest the Hornady 240 grain XTP with the H110 powder. Any good bullet from 200 grains on up will do well for deer. For bigger game, the 300 Grain Cast Performance Gas checked bullets are hard to beat. I shoot them in My SBH. For these I use IMR 4227 powder but again, H110 will work well too. Unique and H110 will do it all. Some other good powders for different loads are Blue Dot. 2400 and WW-296. Also AA- No. 9. Cabelas sells the Cast Performance Bullets. I load the 300 Grain Cast Performance bullet to about 900 fps to shoot in My ultralite Taurus 44 Mag. About 1200 FPS for the Super Blackhawk.

The 500 count lasercast semiwadcutter 240gr runs like 30 dollars. Ain't bad. Finest quality cast I have seen.

No thats a good buy. I have about 250 of the 240 LSWC's left that I got when I was in Rapid City SD. There is a bullet casting outfit there called Rushmore ammo where I used to buy tons of bullets. I quess a guy doesn't need Gas Checks until you get up to 1400 fps or so depending on the lube and Hardness. Thanks for the info. I really like the Cast Performance that I picked up at Cabelas. I got the 300 but they had 320 grainers to. I think they are all gas checked but a guy inn't gonna drive them to fast in the 44 Mag handgun. When I chronographed those the first time, I thout the machine was on the blink. The velocity was like a carbon copy. I can shoot them at 1000 fps in the Ultralite but the recoil is a bit sharp. 900 ain't bad.

What I am really looking for is a tight group at 100yd. Am not sure what weight matches the 1-20 twist best, since I already use H110 and 296 in my contender and I have some blue dot and some No.9 I will start with them. any info is appriciated. Lee

I would bet on the 200 Grain Hornady XTP. Only your gun can tell you for sure but the 200 XTP has shot well in every 44 Mag rifle and pistol that I have ever tried them in. Good luck.
