Tom, I am going to use this as my primary rifle. So far it's not a tack driver but will print 1" groups with several 180 grain bullets, probably go with the Accubond.

If the weather gets nasty I will opt to a S/S. I have put the 300wby on hold for now as it's more or less a bean field gun and is heavy.I now have a Sako M75 S/S in 375 H&H for a back up.

If I had a Weatherby that shot groups like that I wouldn't hunt with anything else LOL. Start lifting weights!

So you had to alter the 40X bolt face to the belted magnum (.532) diameter, rendering it useless for just about all the calibers that are normally associated with the 40X action? And I presume you had to disable the bolt stop so a live round can be removed from the action? This kinda sounds like trying to haul firewood on a motorcycle . . . . If a customer came into my shop and wanted this conversion done, I would really try to talk them out of it. My .02 worth. Roskoe

Roscoe, the 40X's as you knoware built by Remingtons Custom Shop. You can order most anything you want from them. This particular rifle was built on a S/S short single shot action. The bolt is in facthas amagnum face accepting the .532" case head and is un-altered, meaning, that's the way it left the custom shop.. I chose to leave the bolt stop as is and yes the bolt must be removed to remove a loaded cartridge from the gun. I have found this not to be a problem as 98% of the shooting is at targets.Off the bench when the gun is chambered with a round it is sent down range. OAL isnt a problem either!

I did rechamber it to 300 Wby, it was originally a 300 Win Mag.(that's the only modification done and figgured that if I had to remove the bolt on the shorter win mag caseI might as well stretch a little more speed with the free bore of the wby)As for rendering theaction useless for cartridgesassociated with the 40X, this isnt 1965 where the 222 Rem reigned champion, they do chamber magnum cartridges today in 40X's. I just might rechamber it to say.... 300 RUM someday. If ya knew me then you would know that I sometimes do things the hard way, I like things out of the norm.
The only reasons that I was going to use this as a backup gun was that its for the most part weather proof and is a long range set-up.I did reconsider though, thinking there isnt a real need for taking shots like that in Canada. I can only base this on what I have seen on video's , but there are alway exceptions I am sure.

In closing, this rifle wasnt put together by some hack gunsmithing out of his garage, it camefrom Remington's shack
