Are they Legal?
Does anyone know if it is legal or not to use full metal jackets on coyotes in Saskatchewan? I would also like to add that it is nice to see a forum with so many Canadian members using it.

I was under the impression that full metal jackets for any type of hunting in Sask was illegal but i am not 100% about varmits. However i am betting that its the same situation. Check it our with the local wardens but the answer is most likely no.

Maybe try one of those NEW HMR .17...I hear that they do NOT exit coyote size animals therefore you would have VERY SMALL entrance wound...bullet would most likey disentigrate resulting in quick kill(if hit in herat/lung area).
Flat shooting out to 250 yards with almost NO recoil sounds like the PERFECT coyote/fox round to me.

I picked up a .17hmr last year and has worked very very well for me on beaver. I took a young coyote this summer with it at 80 yards and it did a great job however i am hesitant to try it long range. In my opinion is just doesn't have the enough jam for the bigger dogs at say 250-300 yards as well as the wind factor. For those longer bombs i stick with my 7mm obviously not concerned about pelt damage. I highly recomend a .222 or a 22-250 for yotes, the pelt damage with these cals is very minimal. Fur buyers do not get in that big of a snit over the hole unless there are multiple holes and in the area that the pelt is the thickest (back of a beaver). I do love the .17hmr but in my opinon it is not that versatile of a yote gun.

In Alberta you can. You can't for "big game" but coyotes are not big game. I have heard of guys that used them but found they did not kill very effectivly. I forget what cartridge the fellow was using. Most coyote shooters who wish to minimize pelt damage recomment a high velocity fragile bullet that enters and "blows up" inside and does not exit.
