I want to make a closet in my basement into a gun safe. ........BUILD A LOCKED ROOM OUT OF A CLOSET. So now the question is??? If the door (same passage type used through out the house you know the white ones with 6 panels?) So If I put a doorknob on with a keyed lock will this satisfy the gun laws?..... As I do not want to buy trigger locks, I have way to many guns !!!!!
Also when you're out hunting as we all did this fall. Once legal shooting time expires and your guns go into the rifle cases......do they need to be trigger locked? What about if your camping in an R.V. or.... in a tent??
...just thinkn out loud and lookn for answers??
AL
Hunt for the sport, share the outdoors and most of all be safe and enjoy it......know your
back stop when shooting!!

Nicholal, i have asked this very question of enforcement officials and they all say it can't be easily broken into. The only sure fire ways they suggested are those 2000 dollar safes or trigger locks. However I have built a hidden gun cabinet in my storage area, it is also pad locked, the ajoining doors have keyed passage locks. I would think any law officer would agree this is more than adequate, but being they can interpret or use discretion, one never knows. If your building a closet gun cabinet, just throw a deadbolt on instead of a keyed passage lock. I may do this just in case as well.
Guns must be encased on any major highway here, but no trigger locks. In an RV or temp. dwelling such as a camp, I would trigger lock them just incase. You don't need to encase them with a trigger lock on.
Ain't this fun, we are all suppose to comply by Jan 1st and really don't know what is what. The liberals are in need of a serious boot in the A$$!

Bottom line is it is up to the Police Officer on the scene...his discretion....what he would consider "SAFE" another would deem "UNSAFE"...to damn much grey area in our laws regarding the "SAFE STORAGE OF FIREARMS"! I personaly have a cheap gun safe purchased for Canadian Tire in which all my long guns are stored with trigger locks..I also have my handugns with trigger locks in a locked container in the gun safe...but if the Police Officer is an a-hole I could still be charged & it would be up to me to to defend myself in court, after all we all know that in our court system here, you are GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT!!!!!!!!!! Just me .02 cents worth....Brampton Mike
