RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Can't remember the Model of the Burris...it was included with a Tikka package I was looking at for an extra $400. Sounds like you are in the same boat as me looking at all kinds of guns and options "just because". Man it's funny how easy it is to get sucked into all the fun:DI'm sure you have read a ton online and asked the questions to others as well. I'm on tons of sights getting different opinons. As for the PAL renewal, get it!! I figured I'd never need another gun so the hell with it...now look at me. I might be buying a Browning 7mm as well. My son needs a gun one day I figure, price is right!!! We always get checked here for ammo purchases. Have fun with the new gun!
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
IfI was a righty I'd own a lot more guns[8D]! Didn't stop me whenI was younger but have acquired a useful bone so god must have done it on purpose:D.
I am going to have to bitethe bulletand goto WS for some on hands time. You got me thinking about scopes??I found my 4200 to compare wellto the Leo V III series so either we are looking for different things or they have changed them. Also do a once over of the gun cabinet and the store in general. If you do get a handle on the Nikon let me know what you think and where(details)? ;) |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Some beach just looked at my PAL after all this talk and mine is done in July. Do we need to dish out the 60 dollars or so everytime we renew this thing?
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
The renewal fee has been waived, but you do have to get the renewal papers and a new photo into them a couple of weeks before your current one expires. I received the papers a month ago, and a reminder the other day, mine expires in march.
I would give them a call if you don't receive anything by May. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
I had to pay the $60...where did you read about the fee being waived?
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Fees are waived for Renewal. JD you were suppose to get it free since you upgraded from a POl to PAL. Click the waived highlight and read yourself. Give CFC a call!!!
Here is the blurb from CFC's website: Renewing Your Firearms Licence You are required by law to have a valid firearms licence if you possess firearms or if you handle them in the course of your work. You also need a valid licence to be able to obtain more firearms or ammunition. Don’t forget to renew your licence before it expires - It’s your responsibility. An amnesty may protect you from penalties under the Criminal Code for possessing a non-restricted rifle or shotgun without a valid licence until May 17, 2007, if your licence has expired. However, avoid the possible complications and consequences of not renewing on time. The Canada Firearms Centre is making every effort to help you renew your licence: [ul][*]We will send you a renewal notice and a partially completed renewal application form approximately 90 days before the expiry date of your current licence:[*]You need to complete and return your renewal application to us promptly, to ensure that you get your new licence before your current licence expires. We need at least three weeks to process an application and issue a new licence.[*]It is important to notify us if your address changes to ensure that you get your renewal notice and other important information. You can do this online or by calling us at 1800731-4000.[*]If your licence is about to expire but you have not received a renewal application form, you can download form CAFC 979 from our Website or obtain it by calling 1800 731-4000. [/ul] Here are some of the advantages of renewing your licence before it expires. [ul][*]You can renew a Possession-Only Licence (POL). (A POL is only available as a renewal of an existing licence. If you do not renew your POL on time, you will have to get a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), including meeting safety training, if you still want to own or use firearms.)[*]You can use the streamlined renewal application form instead of the longer form for individuals who do not have a licence or whose licence has expired.[*]You can avoid the risk of having your registration certificates revoked and losing your grandfathered privileges for any prohibited firearms you may possess.[*]You can avoid the risk of penalties for unlawful possession of a firearm. [/ul] Fees The fee to renew a POL or PAL has been waived until May 17, 2008. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Alrighty then!! Good to see the gov't actually is giving back money. I'll wait & see if they cash the cheque, if I see it come out of the account I'll be making a call. I'd hate to wreck my good standing before they check over my papers. Thanks for the good news Skeeter!!

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Skeeter...Looks like I didn't get the Nikon (lost out on e-bay) so I won't have a report card on it for ya. I have an in on a Leupold VXII 6.5-18 and a few hundred bucks of Canadian Tire money, so it looks like it will be the scope of choice for the gun.
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
JD, buy it now (not sure if this what your looking for or price).

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Crap!!! I just ordered the Leupold last night from CT. I've been looking for so long on e-bay and the prices were rediculous. Thats a good price. I thought I e-mauled those guys a while back and they said they wouldn't ship to Canada even though it showed it on the chart. Thanks Skeeter! If CT can't get me th 6-20 loopy I'll try these guys.
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
I sent them an email to see if they ship to canada or not. If not they shouldn't be posting it on the canadian ebay website and stating prices, etc.
(reply recvd' $26.50usd shipping to canada any additonal items $12/per) Sorry justsaw it last night:eek:. Oh well a guy needs to get rid of the funny money anyway might as well put it to a scope then new patio furniture or something...:D |

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Hia notice the ditch and grid level with each other!! Shows how much snow we have here.
Hopefully this weekend I'll get out and ease the cabin fever some. Have an invite for ice fishing on sunday but am thinking a shed/yote combo would also be good. We'll see and hopefully I have so more pics to share..:) |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Great pictures Skeeter.
Went out for the afternoon with a fellow shed hunter from another messageboard. We went to a new place that neither of us had walked before. I'd driven past and seen quite a few elk and mulies but until recently I hadn't spoken to the landowner. We split up to walk an alfalfa field. It wasn't long before I spotted these as I came over a small rise. ![]() ![]() my initial thought was matched set but as it turned out they were right sides from two seperate bucks, ![]() We kept on for a while and came to another field of swaths that the landowner had hoped to graze his cattle in. Unfortunately, the deer and elk got there first. It wasn't far before I glassed these a few hundred yards into the field. ![]() ![]() The mattch was about thirty yards away. ![]() ![]() That was it for the day. We walked a few miles after and came up empty. Unfortunately, so did my partner. I guess that's shedddin' for you. Hopefully, we'll make it out again once the mulies start dropping and he'll have a little better luck. The snow is getting pretty deep up here. With any luck spring thaw won't be too many weeks away. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Real nice pics Sask, those are some hefty antlers!:)
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Really nice antlers. I very seldom find antlers like that. Usuallyfind what I call weiner bucks.
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Nice job onceagain Saska!!!
I headed out today for a couple hours myself to the ML spot. I sure wish I would have hadmy skud or snowshoesto get into the barley and alfalfa as it was a real hump walking in!Saw a ton of deerand found a few sheds.I was blownawayafterkicking out 3 bucks that were still packing both sides!Small - fork or maybe a basket, 4x4 and5x5(whichI am sure wasthe 150 class buckfrom the blind). Never thought I'd see that, apparently the deer aren't to stressed in this area. Was really good to get back into the woods and juices pumping. |

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Nice finds! I was going to ask the same question. That's quite the war wagon your partner has. I would be afraid I wouldn't be able to find it when i parked in the bush.:D You guys have all bases covered, camo for the early season and your white Dodge for after the snow hits.
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Works for a distrubitor that markets camoclad, they offered to give him the required material to do his truck as a marketing thing. He is a camo guy to begin with, truck showed wear andnever one to pass up something for nothing....you see the result.:D

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Hey Saskabush- nobody is gonna challenge you to a shed hunting contest, but I wanted to know, are you spotting all those whopper sheds with binocs, walking them up or is your lab smelling them out?
I have heard of people training their dogs to "retrieve" bone. That would be cool huh? |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Well Guys I've finally downloaded photbucket but now how do I transfer the pics to this site? LOL I'm a little slow when it comes to computer's. Been, out for the last 4 days and have only found 2 sheds, one isa 170ish 5 point and the other is a 2 point runt,LOL.Been putting in 3-4 hours a day for the last 4 days while off and am really enjoying the snowshoeing. Should have had shoes like this when I was in the Airbourne30 years ago.I might of stayed in ,LOL. Heading back out in a few hours, finally found where the deer are yarded up and all the feed is. RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Tom,
I've found most of my sheds this year walking/glassing fields. I've found a few walking trails in the bush but there is still a lot of snow on the ground so I'll wait till the spring thaw before looking harder in the bush. Mostly just taking note of trails and bedding areas right now. I've also picked up a few at bale stacks and grain piles. the pooch is more company and entertainment than anything. She has the time of her little life running around sniffing all the deer and moose crap. I've been trying to play the "where your antler" game with her at home and she's doing pretty well. I'll ask her the same thing every time I spot one in the field and she usually finds it. The ultimate test will be if I can convince her to find them and somehow let me know. Right now she just sniffs them and moves on even though she gets plenty of praise for finding it. |

Youngfart go page 62 of this thread. I explain it all to earlyin on that page.

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Good job fellas!! Looks like the bone is starting to pile up. Love tha camo truck too:D
My cousin gat his deer back this weekend (gotta love my taxidermist, quick & good). Anyhow, we scored him and he ended up just under 140 net, very little reductions 1 5/8". We found a shed a couple years back, do you guy's think it's from him? The tines on the shed are actually longer but he is wider. I'm thinking it's just from the same blood line, not him. Take a look and give me your thoughts!! |

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Nice mount. My guess is same family, different bucks. Some of the sheds i've found this year have very similar characteristics but are clearly different deer and in some cases different ages. You can almost piece together what their daddy looked like by comparing the similar features.
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Jd
Nice mounting job ,and it definately is a different deer as the mounted one is an older deer. You can tell in the mass and by the P2 is way off in size. When they get older Ie 6+years, they'll lose in length and width but gain in mass. |

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Oh Well I'm learning the 1st 2 are from the Rabitt hill area I hunt for mulies the 3rd is an ajoining buffalo farm I hunt by,and the next 2 are of my buddy that came with me once with out snow shoes ,the 2nd picture is what happens when you come of the road and deer trails LMAO. and the last is the day ending photo . Guess I'll need to make them bigger next time. Cool being to just drag the pictures you want and put them in a setting. Rocky |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
JD nice mount and shed. Shared characteristics no doubt. I also don't think they are the same deer though.
