YF, try sizing your pictures in the 40-70Kb range vs 2-4Kb thumbnails;). I have a photobucket account but have never really used the thing, I just do mine in photo edit SW then upload individually...so not sure what you need to do on a hosting site.
The B'deep snow I feel yeah thats how it is here. |

ORIGINAL: youngfart 121553 My buddy saw a group of 3 bucks still wearing their headgear the other day .They were mulies too. Youngfart[:@] I was somewhere between Ockatoks and Brook in between the Ole Man River and The Bow and saw a nice 6 pointer with a little harem in a coulee. If someone had told me they still have head gear I would be real skeptical, but I saw it for myself. The guy that was out there told me he had seen some racked bucks but I just blew it off as BS. I havent seen any whitetails with head gear, but hell what do I know. Bobby [/align] |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
A few of the whitetails and most of the mulies up here are still packin. A little to the south (Grande Prairie) they have all dropped due to the hard winter and very deep snow.
We got another 6-8 inches of snow last week so that should get them dropping pretty quick. It's tough walking, not much hope of finding anymore sheds until spring.[:'(] |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Some still packing here as well. More snow fell here this weekend.
Rumor mill time: was in the new fandagle WS on Saturday (nice layout/cabels feel butsame BS). N T Ways, rumor is WS was bought out by Cabelas and the new stores are part of the purchase agreement (as was buying out Russel in Calgary). They are suppose to be biz as normal till all the stores are converted then magically be re-named within the next year or so. The other rumor is SIR has the rights to BPS for western canada and are looking at expansion west. True??? wait and seeI guess!:( BTW reloaders who use federal primers stock up!! WS and Gunworks are cleaned out here and could only shrug their shoulders when they may get some. Win and CCI were plentiful, well except at ws which was pretty dry on components. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
wow! Interesting news Skeeter...we'll see how this plays out over the next little while.
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
It would be nice to see Cabellas but I'd hate to loose a store to get it. Competion is always good,
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Tangozula
Man it's been a while since I have seen you,and your right it would be a shame to lose a store due to the competition, but in the long run it would be better as the prices would be less and they would carry a better selection and more product as they are a big firm. Being a smaller store, they can't give us, the customer, the price that is more viable. But then again that is my opinion. Rocky:eek: |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Agreed it sucks loosing business to big box but if they are into service they won't be going anywhere soon (as we all know you can buygoods from thembut if you need to ask questions you are pretty much SOL). In our case here very little choice and the prices are pretty muched fixed, they have to as very few pay more these days.
While the selection and stockwe would hope would bemuch better, the pricesI doubt would bethat different as a whole. When you consider costs of shipping, duty, exchange, etc we'll always be more then the US. If you've been in BPS in TO (albeit a crappy example of what we'd hope to see if this rumor is indeedtrue) the prices are no different then what wesee themajoritylist @ today. Now if per chance they had crazy prices that may be well and good to begin with but then you'd see the smaller business close their doors b/c they couldn't compete. In turn this would have a negative effect on pricingin the long run(and not in our favor). Either way big box make big return on investments and they will get it, byway of charging market bare and buying in volume for larger profitor swallowing up the competition! I say anything should be better the NOSALE though. |

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
True dat Skeeter...only bad thing is the staff would all just probably be regurgitated to any named store, and thats why I truly hate Wholesale. Unless Cabelas has a much better program for traiing people and would listen to customer complaints to cut out the crappy salesmen. I was in a Cabelas last year in Utah and the guy helping me wasn't too knowledgable but top notch in service, helped me as well as others without anyone feeling left out. I say good riddance to Wholsale just so I don't have to say the name any more. don't forget, wholesale is a big box store already!
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
don't forget, wholesale is a big box store already! My hope is as ours JD, if they do change then hopefully they'll bring a stronger code of business to the mix. |

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
So within the past 2 weeks i have had 2 pretty good job offers. A guy in my class manages a bear/fishing lodge in northern sask up by pelican narrows and want me to guide for him this summer. And my best friend from back home who is down in texas right now seismic drilling said he could get me a job drilling in Montana all summer. I have good work at home with seismic although i am not drilling and have my gig at the bees that gives me 20 bucks an hour and i am around to scout deer and elk all summer. I dunno what the heck i am goin to do.
|
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Living at home making 20 bucks an hour sounds pretty good, might not be as much money as seismic, but cheaper to live, and the money you would save not drinking your face off on the days off :) would cancel out the bigger wage. Plus if you work at the bee farm, we can go fishing and you can show me where all the elk hide up there;). Don't know how much time I'll be spending up there with my wedding and all the crap that goes with it, but I'll be up there a bit this summer. Guiding would be an awesome job, but I wonder if it make something you love doing, turninto work. Actually... now that I type that, I think thats what your supposed to do, find something you love doing and make that your work..... I'm no help to you[&:], good luck picking you job.

ORIGINAL: JPF Don't know how much time I'll be spending up there with my wedding and all the crap that goes with it, but I'll be up there a bit this summer. . I am goin to be turning them students into little bushwackers lol. Check out the Safety lesson i made for a grade 7 class. http://www.brandonu.ca/eduweb/fall06/bloski/webquest.html Actually jpf i am paid 40 dollars a day for meals and my hotel is paid. Contrary to popular belief we do not get drunked up too bad at all because it is usually just 2 ofus unless your on a big job. Last year of work i was only peed out of shape once and i paid for it the next day. That is one job i cannot do hung over and refuse to drink excessive amounts when i have to go out the next day. Usually i am showered, fed and in bed by 10 otherwise i get b1tchy. In camp jobs its worse, man i was sleeping by 8pm each night while the other guys were playin poker and bs'n in their rooms. Felt kinda bad but i need sleep if i am workin like a yote. |

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
So i had my last exams today, loaded up from brandon and headed for home. Somewhere in between minedosa and russel my ice fishing equip caught the wind and blew out of my truck. I went back and looked for it but no dice. 3 rods a tipup, tackle box and a fish glove are gonzo. I just about cried.

Sorry to hear about the fishing gear, maybe a good excuse to buy some new stuff bud [:@] Rocky |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
tough luck on the fisihin equip Hia!
Havent posted ina while, but been following. Sounds like everyone had a good christmas. Gunna start shed hunting here in BC soon. Also beginning to prep for a May grizzly hunt. Myself and a friend got drawn for grizzlies in a heavily populated area (BC/Yukon border) and will be heading in for a 10 day hunt with ATV and jet boat in tow. Should be a very fun trip with good potential for 2 bears. Lotsa blacks and wolves up there as well. While in the area (jsut to tease skeeter) we will also be doing some scouting for stones sheep areas, as not many hunters drive that north for stones (usually unnecessary) there are good populations, low hunter numbers, but are hard areas to reach. Cheers |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
I found 3 rods and some other equipment yesterday....:Djust kidding bud!
Wholesale has a sale on right now in Calgary so you can replace everything on sale at least. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
jeff
Still got about 2 feet in the fields as I speak but if the above temps continue through next week, it should all be gonzo. Found my 3rd shed as of Thursday as the tip was just protruding through the top of the snow. Should start to find them more next week though. Am getting some great pics on my last few outings as the skies are clear and bright.Snow shoes have been the way of late as the snow has been deeper than normal in the last 4 years. Should get around next week in my boots hopefully. Tough climbing baredwire fences with snowshoes LMAO.Keep in touch Jeff, good tohear from you again.[8D] Rocky |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Hey Rocky, what's new? I just got an e-mail from Jim an hour ago,I had told him I missed him at the Harrisburg Sports show. He went to Hawaii instead. There was a whitetail guide from Iowa in his booth who told me he's hunted with Jim, small world.
I don't really think Jim needsshows like that to get clients but he says he enjoys it. I was telling him howI'm more phychedfor this '07 hunt than I was even for my first Zone hunt. Strange.Maybe because I gota little taste of success last Nov? Nice to hear from you. Jeff |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!

Cool eagle Sprockett!
Good luck Skeet, looking forward to the pics. TS on the fishing gear Hia, at least you have an excuse to buy new stuff.:) Snow keeps piling up but i did manage a few sheddin' trips last week. I found 2 whitetail sheds and 7 mulies, nothing huge.I'm stalled at 37 for the year waiting for the snow to melt. However, my really exciting news is I got home last night and had a message from the Taxidermist ![]() ![]() My deer mount is ready and as luck would have it my wife and I were heading to Edmonton tommorowso we'll just keep rolling to Saskatoon to pick up the mount. I can't wait. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Saskabush
Must be exciting to finaly pick up your mount, should drop in here and get him scored on your way back.Would take an hour maybe 1 1/2 at the most. Remember I do BTR scoring ,so he'll get full credit for all the tangled stuff.Good luck and here's my phone number if you have time 780-463-3762 in Edmonton. I'm home all day. Skeeter good luck fishing and if their not biting on Hia's gear you found on the highwaygood luck shed hunting.LOL;) Sprocket ,that is a huge piece of bird ,would look awsome on any wall in my place. Was it hard to get a permit for him from fish & wildlife, also what was the cost of the mount to you if you don't mind me asking.[:@] Rocky |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Skeeter...been stupid busy at work lately. Can't even get on to keep up to the conversations. I finally got my scope last week and mounted it the other night. Still haven't taken it out since free time is no where in sight these days. Hoping to get to the range in the next week or 2 and then once this friggin snow melts it's gopher poppin time!!

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Hey JD
You need to make time for those little things in our lives, life is to short to miss out on them. Work isin't all it's made out to be,some of us forget we have lives and families and get carried away sitting in our office.[:@] Well just got back in from being out for another 3 hours snowshoing and looking for sheds. Found someone took some tree steps from a few of my stands and then I found the other side of the 5 pointer I found a week ago.Perfect match and will peg him at around 180ish,great mass and real heavy. The thief must have been in after my fall, cause they were their then. Probably ticked off that I was hunting the property instead of him as I had to tear down a few stands that were in place from previous years. Guess that's what happens when you don't secure a property fast enough;).Which means I should get on the phone and secure them again for next years use:). The snow is still 3 feet deep along the fence lines,so it was still easy to step over the barbed wire fencing.Hopefully the snow will start to melt so I can start getting some sheds in my truck.Calling for snow tonight though [:@]To those still looking for sheds, good luck and God Bless. Rocky |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
Yf,
good work matching up those sheds. Pictures?thanks for the offer to score my buck. It may not work as Sunday will be a non-stop day of driving (we usually bypass Edmonton) but if I can convince the wife to stop i'll give you a shout. thanks again. |
RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
I hear ya Rocky but I have too many idiots to look after at work and it just gets worse with every hire. Hopefully things will slow down and I start to take a breath of fresh air. Get some pics of the sheds up asap!

RE: 2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
For those of you who haven't seen it a million times already (sorry guys), here is my 2006 Alberta Whitetail.
![]() I was home in Saskatoon this last weekend to pick up the mount. It's the first deer i've ever had done and I couldn't be happier. The taxidermist did an amazing job (thanks Skeeter for recommending him). It was well worth the 11 hour drive. Here's some pics from last night when I got it home: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
