scope for marlin 336
#21
I would go with any 2X7X32 or 40, the lower power works better for close range shooting. Can bump up the magifacation for longer range shooting. Someone mention using the higher power to check out racks. Thats what binocs are for. WHY are you looking at deer racks with a rifle any way ? Rule 1 of any hunter ed class is never point a rifle at something you dont intend to shoot, never use a scope to check something.

Having Scoped many Marlin 336's both 30-30 and .35 Rem and wearing glasses I've found it's hard to beat a Leupold Scope for Eye Relief, clarity, dependability, Warranty and Resale value. Every time I get away from Leupold I'm disappointed. Redfield is now owned by Leupold and their Revolution line of Scopes are good value for the dollar and made in Beaverton, OR.
With that said, If most of your shots are going to be from out to 100 yards it's hard to beat a more compact size scope for that particlar Rifle. That means a fixed 4 power Scope, or a 2-7 variable. If you need to reach out to 150yds the Leupold VX-3, 2.5-8x36 is one beautiful Scope.
Let us know what you end up with!

Can't agree more. That is what I put on a 336 that I won. Took 2 deer with it. Both deer were taken still hunting a field (walking slowly). Never took it off 2X
