I have and use a Model 7 SS in 308 with a Silver 3x9 Leupold Vari X 2 on it.
No problems here.

I have been using a Model 7 in 7mm-08 for 16 years. I have several other rifles / scopes , but the Model7 is about my favorite. Mine has a Nikon 4-16x42 Monarch on it. It is a wonderful combination and is a very balanced rifle. It will kill to 400 yards. But thats not what you asked.... you asked for a scope recommendation for around 100.00 , and not too high of a magnification.

I like some of the Burris stuff, the fullfield II is a good scope for the $$$.

I would not hesitate to get the Nikon Prostaff. The Buckmasters is a little better quality, but it is a fixed power......

The Bushnell Elite is a great scope, but it is more $$$.

The Weaver is a pretty good scope.... better than the Simmons stuff and the lower end Bushnells.

It all depends on just how close to 100.00 you have to be.

Use the links in the post, and it will take you to theopticzone.com.

You can look around there to see if you like anything better.

I deal a lot with Jon and Tammi, they are good folks....

God Bless

MET

I would hunt with iron sights for a year and save my money up to buy a quality scope. A sub $100 scope is going to be a purchase you will regret. Maybe you can find a used scope.

A 2-7x32 Nikon Prostaff would be my choice. I have once on my 30-06 and it works excellent. Generally they will run a little over a $100.

If you really need to be under a hundred you might see if you can get a Simmons as the quality should be good in that price range.

For those "most of the time" close shots why not consider a fixed 4X. The Leuppy FXII in 4 X ain't half bad.

Second that. I much prefer fixed power scopes and Leupold makes some of the best. The FXII 4X33 is one of the best low light scopes out there.

All of the worlds sniper rifles used in WWIIused low powered scopes except for a relatively few 03 Springfields that were fitted by the USMC for Unertl 8X and 10x scopes.

I never had any trouble with my model seven (6mm) accomodating a standard sized scope. I've had it fo 22 years with a leupy 3-9.

If I had $100.00 to spend on a scope (as was the case a couple on months ago), I'd buy the nikon prostaff. If you look around in cabelas bargain basement you can pick one up for around $108.00 (that's the price I paid in May). It was marked at $130.00 but I just asked the clerk if they could do any better and he did (standard practice in the bargain basement). Great glass for the money
