Check them out for yourself if you can. I had my mind made up on a Leupold, but after I played with it and a Nikon, I quickly changed my mind. The Nikon was more user friendly, simple and easier to read. I ended up buying a used Nikon 600 off of Ebay that was just like new. I think I paid a little under $200 shipped.
Again, check them out first. Two or three different times if you can.

I have to say Nikon is a much more user-friendly design...and their optics are superior to Leupold.
You can find some good, new Nikons for $199-369 here: http://www.bearbasin.com/rangefinder.htm#nikon_range

Do it right and buy a Lieca. try ebay i have seen some pretty nice prices on lieca. I know what your thinking but having used nikon, bushnell and lieca their is no comparison. For the difference up front it is much cheaper than upgrading to it later. Experience talkng as my bushnell scout collect nothing but dust now!

I have been considering a range finder like you in a medium to ower range. My first instict was bushnell. They seem to have become the industry standard for a good cheap one. But I have read some good things about the Leupolds. They have a neat feature that can give you a reading that compensates for ranging on an incline. And I hunt from an elevated blind or sometimes I have to take a shot up toward the ridge. This seemslike a useful feature and Leupolds durability and customer service is legendary.
The Nikon Buckmaster is now onsale at Bass Pro for 199.
