I don't believe any clubs would have to change over, there is nothing in the rules about what target to shoot, in fact I think they can even be 2D targets. All the rules mention is there needs to be scoring rings on em for x,10,8,5 scoring.
The McKenzie, I believe, are a contract for the national triple crown and worlds, nothing more.

The contract with McKenzie extends to all national or world level events.
The requirement for targets to be utilized for an IBO event is to have anatomically correct scoring zones.
Having said that I believe that all target makers try to accomplish that end.
The difficulty from their perspective toward that end, would be placement of the target by those of us that set the ranges(angles, down hill, etc).
McKenzie has come out with a Whitetail target this year to simulate a down hill or tree stand target and a quartering away target for this purpose.

Having shot at the Triple Crown and the World as well as attending various sport shows I think that some place McKenzie is missing the boat. Rineharts have been claiming that their targets will outlast more than 0ne of their competitors targets and have been offering time and places where targets on exhibit have been shot and showing shot out McKensie targets as proof. If this is not the case the people that can offer proof to the contrary should be stepping forward with such proof. Our club is switching to Rineharts to save money and to present a better looking target week after week. MeKensie and Rineharts both have a product that when it is presented for the first time has acceptable cosmetic appearance. Over the long haul of setting out and removing targets damage to MeKensie targets at our club have not held up.
If other clubs have bad expierences with Rinehart targets, lets hear about them, not the usual "I heard and Someone Said" chatter that the internet produces.

How do you feel that McKensie is "missing the boat"? The fact that McKENSIE has been the #1 target manufacturer for many years, and that they still have the most natural-looking targets available on the market even today should tell you something. NO target lasts forever on the range, especially after thousands of shots have been put into them. Rineharts are no different in this respect. In the past some of the clubs I shoot have tried Clouds, Longhorn, Delta, and YES, Rineharts, and YES, they all do the job of catching arrows, however when looking for the most natural looking target when shooting, IMO there is only one that rises to the top, and it's the one that has been #1 for many years. There is a reason they have been #1, and it's not because they are UGLY! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Just my own thoughts, Pinwheel 12

McKensie's are "bar none" the best target that exists. I have no interest in shooting at midget polar bears, "swelled" king cobras(with 7 kill rings), pink panthers, or any other goofy contraption that Rinehardt Targets produce. I guess the IBO is like every other "professional organization" they need to take bids to make the manufacturers happy. Why not be more concerned about the shooters and device a way to find out what we want. ---venting--- Go with the McKensie's. Remeber the old saying. K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stu...)

Shot at a club here in West Virginia today, that had 1 Rinehart on the range and has a few more to put out. I sure hope that IBO stays with McKenzie. I know that Ken says that they will send invitations to other target companies to bid on target use....I sure hope that Rineharts invitation gets lost in the mail and is NEVER found. Nothing personal with anyone that found the Rinehart company or anything like that but the target just plain out suck[;(][red]

Can anyone briefly explain target economics to me? I shoot one place were a member's round of 20 targets is like 5 bucks, Canadian, so 3 bucks roughly. On that basis the range is getting 15 cents a shot, and that works out to $150/1000. Will the targets actually take that many shots? Few of them cost less than $150.

Pinwheel,
The fact that they are missing the boat is proven by the fact that Rinehart targets is growing every year. The McKensie company has sat back and let their targets slip as far as quality and appearance goes. The cosmetic appearance has gone down hill and the targets that do stop arrows for any length of time they charge you more money for and in reality the extra money does not match the durability. Lets ask all the companys to furnish a target at each of the IBO MAJOR SHOOTS and nonitor the nunber of shots to see which has the best durability. To me the only thing that McKensie has done is reap the harvest and as far as the Natural Look goes they prove that it pays to advertise (Natural Look).
