Default IBO Club Insurance

Does the insurance policy offered by IBO to member clubs cover non-archery events? Is it common liability insurance?

FYI:
I just called the agent in charge of IBO' s club insurance program. It covers archery ranges, archery events and meetings only. Rifle ranges, fishing ponds, etc. are not covered. Damn the luck! He did give me a referal to a company who does write those kind of policy coverages... now let' s see if that company is cheaper than everyone else.

I was once told that when it comes to insurance there ain' t no free lunch. If it' s half price, the oats are probably used. (Hyrprymate)
Make sure to compare apples to apples.

Ohhh... I' m EXTREMELY familiar with insurance & legal verbage. Been doing this for quite awhile as treasurer of a club and not-so-sexytary of a state-wide bowhunting organization.
Had to call Chesley though just to see what the policy covers (which the outcome I noted in my second post to thread). He referred me to a policy writer in Colorado that writes policies for my type of club (archery, firearms, fishing & hunting)... and told me to gave the info to my insurance agent. Our type of sports (collective of archery, rifle, etc enthusiasts) are hard to get policies for that aren' t astronomical. I' m paying dirt cheap now, compared to what I could be paying. The insurance companies you see offering club insurance on the web are very high. I' ve visted them all... they' re between 30 to 300% more expensive. My agent told me on the phone that the insurance market is currently what is called a " hard market" . Nobody is writing new policies, and all commercial premiums are going up 30, 40 & 50%+ across the board, no matter what business or service you' re in. Ours went up 12.75%. Being the skinflint I am... I' m still looking for a cheaper premium.

Good job. I appreciate your efforts. We have been lucky in our program. Our loss/claims ratio is such that our coverage has stayed at the same cost level for the year. I guess in this market that is sort of like a reduction. (Federal math)
Ches is very good at helping the clubs in this kind of thing and I hope his suggestions help.

If we were doing just archery, I' d be filling out the application right now. That policy is CHEAP and the coverage is excellent... hence why I started the thread kind of asking why so cheap.
Our club has had our ' Recreation Area' since 1971 and we have never had a claim on our insurance policy. There was one close call though:
Maybe 10 years ago one archery event shooter decided to take his shoes off on the course... breaking a rule. He was looking for his arrow and walked up near the edge of the state hwy (who knows why). He stepped on a piece of broken bottle. We immediately called for an ambulance. Being it was on the state' s right of way... the state took care of it.
Rule of thumb: no matter how insignificant or superficial the wound, always ask the injured party if they want an ambulance. If they say " no" make sure there are plenty of witnesses. Ask again with " are you sure?" . This shows you showed reasonable judgement and action, but were denied by the injured party. Use your judgement though and call one if you think it really necessary. Post signs in obvious places saying things like " Appropriate attire necessary!" , and " Watch your step on the course!" , etc.
We' re lucky to have club members who are EMT' s, Paramedics and Doctors... so we basically have a staff on hand at most events anyway.
