Glad to here your place works for you .I own 150 acres is crawford county & I too do alright with the deer. With food plots and thick cover I can show you a buck any day from 6/1- 12/25 The people that hunt my land know the rules. You get in the woods in the dark & come out in the dark. The only time any one is on the ground in day light is to gut & tag a deer all deer are taken out in the dark, that way any deer we spook will not be shot on the property line. And yes we have the line leeches, they stand with their back to a tree with a posted sign on it, but they drive more deer to us than they ever shoot & yes they are doe slayers too but they never shoot the buck that is following the doe go figure! Keep working on your land and you will have all the deer you need .

Wow, glad I moved to MD. a few years ago. I used to live in the Gettysburg area (born and raised there) and I cut my teeth hunting the mountains there. Public land hunting in this area is not good at all. My brother still hunts in that area and gets excited about seeing three doe in one day. Too many doe permits over the past 10 years and the lack of AR in the past have dwindled the herds in this area severely. Can it become what it once was? Absolutely. Will it happen in the next 5 years? I doubt it. As far as 100 acres not being enough to control the quality of a deer heard, I must disagree. My best friend has a private property that totals about 30 acres here in Carrol county. In the last 5 years he has taken a 135 class 9 point, and a 120 class 9 point. All of the land around this property is over hunted. What he has done is provide a safe haven, and believe me, it works. I know someone is going to say "yeah, 2 deer in five years, big deal" but if anyone is familiar with Carrol County, Md. they know that seeing deer is not rare, but seeing big deer is like spotting Bigfoot in NYC! Educating people on land management and selective hunting are the only way to increase not only the quantity of a deer heard but also the quality.
