Default RE: PA. Deer Hunting will only get worse

Wow, glad I moved to MD. a few years ago. I used to live in the Gettysburg area (born and raised there) and I cut my teeth hunting the mountains there. Public land hunting in this area is not good at all. My brother still hunts in that area and gets excited about seeing three doe in one day. Too many doe permits over the past 10 years and the lack of AR in the past have dwindled the herds in this area severely. Can it become what it once was? Absolutely. Will it happen in the next 5 years? I doubt it. As far as 100 acres not being enough to control the quality of a deer heard, I must disagree. My best friend has a private property that totals about 30 acres here in Carrol county. In the last 5 years he has taken a 135 class 9 point, and a 120 class 9 point. All of the land around this property is over hunted. What he has done is provide a safe haven, and believe me, it works. I know someone is going to say "yeah, 2 deer in five years, big deal" but if anyone is familiar with Carrol County, Md. they know that seeing deer is not rare, but seeing big deer is like spotting Bigfoot in NYC! Educating people on land management and selective hunting are the only way to increase not only the quantity of a deer heard but also the quality.
