My buddy as work hunts in Zone 22 and his dad shot a doe last Sat but he only saw bucks from his stand in Colts Neck. Yesterday, his grandfather shot a spotted FAWN. I' m not a huge fan of this season as well as the late permit. That' s Jersey.

my friend who shot the doe, his reasoning was pretty good in my eyes. we are 17 and in high school. that leaves us with 1 afternoon a week to hunt. i dont get outta football until 630 and that is way too late. saturday morning i have films, so that leaves saturday afternoon. we need to shoot our does ASAP before the rut so that we can kill us some of the bucks we have been watching for the past 2 months. that was his reasoining. BTW- his father did shoot a big doe last saturday afternoon. so far between 3 of us who are really hunting, we have killed 2 deer. not bad for a week and a half in the season on public land. all of us have shot. my arrow didnt fly true, my fletching got screwed up. well, thats why it' s hunting and not killin!

Kobear--
Congrats to you guys for getting your deer! I too have limited time due to work/family so I see your dilemma. If the state makes us shoot does then we have no choice but to get with the program. I' m not a fan of the late season permit where guys in my area blast buttons until late Jan.
Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season.

So far I' ve hunted only public land. Zone 51 hasn' t been to bad so far. Opening morning, 3 deer walked out at first light. The first was an 8 point buck, the second a big doe and the third a really weird 4 pointer. As I stood up in my stand to get ready for a shot at the doe, my stand creeked a little and they had me pretty much pegged. They didn' t get spooked fully, but ended up trotting into the woods off their trail. Later that morning a spike ran under my stand. Before lunch I had 1 more big doe come out, but it didn' t offer any shot. It was 25 yards away but behind to much brush. That night I went out and saw another doe, but it stayed behind some brush and I had no shot. I just got home from hunting some more public land in zone 51 and saw a small 4 point buck. Had him ranged at 28 yards, and he hung out in front of me for about 45 minutes. So far it' s been more bucks and fawns then big does. Looks like it will take some time before I have one filling my freezer!
