Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Wish me luck

I put in for my spring tag today. The area I put in forgives around 450 tages and I think 400 more for private land only.

The local Gander MT dosent have any calls out yet, may have to go some were else. How much dose a middle of the road call go for, box, slate, mouth. I am planing on getting 1 or 2 of them.

I have never even looked at decoys so who make a good one, like the calls I am looking for middle of the road in price.

I headed down to the area I will (I hope I will) be hunting this spring and saw alot of birds.
10 big toms (they were real nice birds)
Around 40 hens and smaller goblers
Is it normal for them to be in big groups, or is that just a thing they do in winter.

Good luck to anyone else who has to put in for a drawing.

Guss good luck to ya!!Yes it is very normal for turks to be grouped up through the fall and winter months just part of there social behaviour! The older gobblers will usually have a group all there own but food, water, and roosting sites can move them in with the younger birds!
As far as decoys I rarely use them but when I do I like Buckwings, one of the most realistic looking decoys on the market reasonbly priced but more importantly effective(hen&jake combo)! There are a bunch of places to look at calls, dekes, and all the gear that goes with this sport, one of my personal favorites is midwest turkey call supply!Run a search on it and you''ll be amazed at all the calls on the market!Once again good luck...Bob

Thanks Bob, Man are there the calls out there. The big toms were in a group all by them selves out in a feild, the otherers were on the edge of the woods.

In MI we have a draw for the april hunt for all areas, there is a may hunt in some of theareas that give garented tages, but May is fishing season and I wont be doing much else.

Good luck getting a tag. I hope to hear about you filling that tag this spring. Those big groups of turkeys will be spread all over the place come spring, sounds like you have a good spot! Good luck again!
