The article also said deer/auto collisions cost over a billion dollars a year in the US. Didn't say what PAs cut out of that would be, but being #1 in auto/deer conflicts it must be high.

So?

What we gonna do? shoot for last place? lmao.

If anyone is concerned about insurance companies findings on this and thinks we should try and get to be second or less....Then what about the next state that becomes first? They do the same...Then the next? SOMEONE will always be ranked first unless we kill ALL the deer!

Just like m'uh boy Jerry Said.....Much ado about nuttin'. If someone loses sleep over it, I think that man obviously doesnt have many real concerns in this world and is quite lucky. lol.

Actually it's a difference of 800,00 or 6% But PA generates 12 deer collisions per 100,000 vehicles where Ohio only generates 9 deer collisions per 100,000 vehicles. Thats 33% more when all things are made equal.

Looks like Ohio may not have more deer than PA or maybe Ohio's DNR teaches them to use crosswalks

Default wmu2g

things also change amount of deer killed along highways.changing rd or food etc does it.more traffic, like we are getting gas drilling in our area here in clinton county.

MORE TRAFFIC.here is sprouls view.i saw a couple of deer that were using road daily.sadly both got hit by STONE TRUCKS.these trucks all ride at 55 mph together, like 6 in row so they can keep their speed up,they get paid by trips.deer has no way to get around them.

without those trucks those deer could have survived.but remember, they were only 2 that were there.
so someone may see those 2 deer dead and say, SPROUL THERE IS LOTS OF DEER,I SAW 2 DEAD ALONG ROAD.

folks, big trucks are using our backroads like nothing we have seen now.dont use the roadkill view as thinking there could be a lot of deer ,its just that deer that are left are getting killed and makes it look like there are lots of deer.
it just makes me mad when i see those 6 stone trucks all together heading up rt 120 at 6 am going 55 mph and they know that a deer is going to miss the first truck and the 2nd and 3rd will hit them.

road kill is not a real good view of what deer are here,if no food in woods, deer wil be near highways or farms........

Population estimate for Pa= 12,500,082
Population estimate for Oh=11,500,000
...........................................1,000,0 82

Did the same person that taught those Ohio deer to use crosswalks also teach you to use a calculator?

It also stated 2% of auto/deer collisions resulted in human fatalities, 85% of all motorcycle/deer collisions result in human fatalities. I don't see any problem with being last in this category.

Noble wishes, but not reality pats.

Do you know how low the deer population would be here for that to be the case?

If we had the population of deer that Maine does we still wouldnt be "last" due to the high human population of drivers and all the roads. So itd need to go even much lower than that.

Sorry, but think I'll pass.

My advice? If you're that skeered, drive a sturdy suv or truck and dont drive a motorcycle.

NExt maybe you'll wanna end hunting because occaissionally people get shot and every one is one too many right?.

I stand corrected. I googled and got these two sites from the US census but used a 2000 vs a 2008 estimate. They're two lines apart. Sorry for the foul-up. The difference is actually a only little under a mil.

But it's still only an 8% difference in popultion using your numbers.

The point you ignored was that on a per 100,000 vehicles comprison, PA has 33% more deer/car collisions.

Did you not see that part???

Nope...Hadnt seen the maps. But one thing i did find very interesting, that doesnt agree with your position....

You were trying to draw direct correlations between deer densities to car collission...

According to the Pa map, Potter county had one of the very highest rate of collissions according to that map per every 1000 licensed drivers!!!

Sullivan county also.

The "higher" deer density counties were MUCH lower!
