Evening before turkey last year, went to roost some gobblers. Decided to take a different route that I normally do, which had me walking through knee high to some places waist deep weeds for about 500 yards. Had a buddy with me, and we were walking real fast trying to cover most of the area quickly. Got to the end and we had ticks all over us! I had around 15 on my pant legs and shirt and he had 10, and found two more when we got home. Funny thing is, I usually walk all through those woods, most of which are fairly open, every year, and did throughout turkey season last year afterwards and never get any. Ive not been back to walk onthat &#*$%% powerline though.(LOL)

Those little blood suckers crawl partway up plant stems and sit their with their forelegs outstretched looking to hitch a ride with anything that brushes up against them.

..Sproul, that tick nibblin' on ya for 4 days?! That darn tickoutta look like a cantalope! Its also no wonder your dizzy, you dont have no blood left!

Someone needs to find a way to eradicate ticks and deer flies from the face of the earth.Nothing is worse and the ticks are bad this year.Permanone is by far the best defense against ticks.

Sproul,I'm glad to see that you aren't messing around.Lymes disease is scary stuff.I hope you're ok.
thanks, i just got back from emergency room .

i got real dizzy and flu like .could not keep my balance.

they said that it takes from 3 days to 2 weeks for this to show up,so i was sick on monday at youngwomans creek stocking trout ,i figure i got bit on thursday, so that was 4 days to show up and got worst on the 6 th day today.

they said the nymph ones which come out now are worst because they are so small you have hard time seeing them and feeling them.they are bad ones with red butt and 8 legs.

i looked in mirror same day i came home and saw nothing on my back.

today is when i FELT something wrong in shower and saw blood all over my fingers as i reached back to try to reach the spot below my shoulder blades.

i have hole in my back the size of a pencil eraser,CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT.DID NOT FEEL ANYTHING UNTIL TODAY.

the pills cost 9 dollars and are doxyocyline you take for 28 days.

i took pill 3 hrs ago and feel better already even tho they said it takes a day or so for pill to work.

my dizzness is almost gone.

too bad they dont make something like a soap that you can put on in shower that will kill a tick.

3 years ago i was sitting in paddys run creek near renovo,pa.

i was sitting on rock in creek.

not a tick on that rock ,yet i got home and found 2 down my neck.

doctor said they followed my breath to my neck from trees above.

unreal.
hope i am not boring anyone but this info may help someone.

this has just added another disappointing thing to sport we all enjoy, getting out in woods scouting with kids or dogs.i love to do it but i am not taking any kids out to our boy scout camp as of now, no way.

i never had 12 ticks on my dog in 1 hr or so walking pipelines, usually its about 2 or 3 total.

SPROULMAN: I think I would start brushing /flossing my teeth better if I were you.

question though: In your second or third post, you state you had your dog out for one hour walk, got 12 ticks. Subsequent post it became a two hour walk??

For those that have used the product, can't remember the name, Pirmanone ? can it be used safely on animals? Thanks in advance.

crokit, permanone is a brand name. You can buy it at wall mart. It's a copper colored can with a blue lid.You spray it on your coths and it will last for over two weeks.I keep a can in my truck at all times and A pair of pants and shirt sprayed down at all times. If i know I'm going to the woods,I just put those cloths on.This works wonders. It's doesn't repel them however,it kills them after they're on you for a few minutes.

As far as dogs go,I buy a concentrated version of the active ingrediant permetherine at Tractor supply. It's about $5 for a small 8 ounce bottle that you mix with water. This stuff is designed for livestock but I imagine it would work on dogs.Probably best to ask you vet first or call the manufacturer.I use it on my horses and it does work.I may be wrong but I think the brand permanone has something in it that bonds to fabric so it may not be as effective if you spray it on animals.Again,I may be wrong about that.

I seriouisly wouldn't consider going in the woods from now until the first frost without spraying down with permanone or another variation of permetherine.

Doug, glad to see you suggest to contact the manufacturer if a person has any questions on how the chemical should be applied. Alot of people have the attitude, what can it hurt? You should never guess with chemicals! Also, where do you purchase your permanone?

No problem fellas.Ticks are nothing to fool around with.

I usually get the permanone and Walmart. It's in a copper colored can with a blue lid in the camping section. The concentrated stuff I buy at Tractor supply but alot of local feed mills may carry it as well. There's several different versions of the concentrate.Just look for the active ingredient permetherine.

exact time out was about 1 and 1/2 hrs, I THINK.thats close.but i did stop and let him out at 2 feeders on way in ,thats when i saw my salt licks STOLEN.[:@]

PERMANONE can only be used on clothes, not skin.

PICARIDIN,can be used on skinfor us.

DEET ,can be used on skin for us.

SKIN SO SOFT by avon is good one to use on skin for us.

ADVANTIX K-9/FRONTLINE PLUS are good for dogs.HARTZ 2/1 at wal-mark works good too but needs to be put on every week, others 1 time a month.

i did not use any and did not have it on my dog,i thought as cold as it was out that ticks would not be bad.

THAT WAS BIG MISTAKE AND ONE I WILL NOT MAKE AGAIN.

taking this pills is not fun for 28 days, ugh.
